Overview

Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for a Sector Analyst. This position could be based in any of our U.S. offices (Austin; Chicago; Boston; Houston; Los Angeles; New York; Menlo Park; Orange County; Portland; Sacramento; San Francisco; Santa Monica; Seattle; Washington DC; or Wheeling, WV) and consideration given for 100% remote US locations.

Objective: As a Sector Analyst, you will support the firm's strategy regarding sector understanding and development. You will be part of a team of analysts producing insightful content on key sectors of interest to the firm. Your role will involve developing models and products that help our Market Intelligence and Practices teams stay abreast of sector and market changes, as well as producing topical and geopolitical insights to aid business growth.

What will I do? The Sector and Market Analyst will proactively monitor legal, geopolitical, and economic issues affecting chosen sectors, produce detailed and insightful research, and support thought leadership initiatives. You will collaborate with key Firm departments and members of Firm leadership to execute on the Firm's sector and market strategy.

How will I spend my time? You will spend most of your time on these responsibilities:



Responsibilities

Research and Analysis Support

    Develop a strong understanding of the interests of the chosen Practice and an appreciation of the client base.
  • Proactively monitor legal, geopolitical, and economic issues that affect the chosen sector to identify areas for further research.
  • Produce detailed, insightful research that synthesizes market sentiment and provides analysis. Output may be in written reports or PowerPoint decks.
  • Develop and design information products such as models, dashboards, and webpages to encourage wider understanding of sector business cycles and key metrics.

Thought Leadership and Industry Monitoring

  • Support thought leadership initiatives with in-depth research support.
  • Stay abreast of industry developments, regulatory changes, and technological advances that could influence the firm's strategy.
  • Interpret complex data sets to identify patterns, correlations, and growth opportunities.

Collaboration and Relationship Building

  • Build and maintain productive relationships with senior lawyers, key stakeholders, and peers across the business.
  • Leverage the expertise of our Research and Market Intelligence team to enhance collaborative efforts.

Data Management and Reporting

  • Utilize PowerBI and other analytical tools to create dynamic reports and dashboards that integrate the firm and market view of sectors and markets.
  • Create reports using the functionality of Word and PowerPoint, and demonstrate competency in the use of Excel.


Qualifications

  • Likely previous experience in consultancy, professional services firms, investment banking, corporate strategy departments, or media.
  • Strong writing skills, including the ability to abstract and summarize complex arguments and draw conclusions that align with the firm's interests and/or help to identify opportunities.
  • Numerical fluency and the ability to present data effectively, either through graphics or text.
  • Ability to build and develop relationships at all levels of the organization and have credibility as an expert.
  • Strong technical skills in key information products relevant to their sector and financial databases.
  • Experience creating reports using Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Ability to utilize PowerBI and other analytical tools to create dynamic reports and dashboards.
  • A strategic mindset, with the ability to think about the bigger picture in respect of how research can support the success of the organization.
  • Proactive approach with the ability to work on own initiative and manage own workload.
  • 5+ years of relevant research experience. Ability to produce decision ready reports/presentations essential. Commercial approach, strong writing and numerical skills and ability to present data in an easily digestible format.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is between

  • California Major Markets* $77,000 - $140,000
  • New York City $83,000 - $140,000
  • National $72,000 - $115,000

* California Major Markets includes San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, Orange County, Santa Monica. All other California locations fall within National range.

Orrick is committed to providing a comprehensive, competitive, and thoughtful total compensation package to our attorneys and staff, wherever they work. This compensation and benefits information is based on the Orrick's estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant experience or education, particular skills or expertise, geography. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus, which would be determined by Firm and individual performance.
