About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants seeks a Principal Data Acquisition Program Manager who leads the team responsible for remote sensing/data acquisition services, including satellite, UAS/drone and other remote sensing services. Our analysts apply their skills to client-facing technology projects and work closely with our Geospatial and Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning teams to deliver projects for a variety of markets and services. These include inspection, wildfire mitigation and recovery, invasive species detection, endangered species surveys, and more. The Principal Data Acquisition Program Manager will contribute an innovative technical perspective to strategic business discussions and advocate for best practices.

The Principal Data Acquisition Program Manager is an experienced environmental consulting project manager who will provide leadership in winning and executing client-facing work utilizing Technology services. They will collaborate closely with the Geospatial Services and Solutions Development Teams to leverage our cloud-based platforms for data management, hosting, analytics, and delivery of actionable intelligence directly to clients and project managers.

The Principal Data Acquisition Program Manager will work with the UAS team to schedule tasks and manage projects being completed by the Remote Sensing/DA team. In addition, they will review all process documentation to ensure our risk, insurance programs, and compliance programs (including FAA policies) meet or exceed our requirements.

This is a full-time, regular (with benefits), salaried position. The individual can work out of one of SWCA's USA-based offices, or work remotely (= distributed). Hybrid work environments are also encouraged.

What you will accomplish

The Principal Data Acquisition Program Manager will ensure that all new capability development efforts are supported by weighted business backlog and will include a realistic cost recovery plan. This individual will manage the financials of this service including backlog, cost recovery, and risk management considerations. The Program Manager will report to the Sr. Director of Practice Technologies and additional responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Promote a culture of safety by implementing risk-based decision support mechanisms for all UAS deployments.
  • Lead and mentor team members to ensure they have everything they require to meet or exceed deadlines and expectations.
  • Ensure we communicate as needed with the FAA for UAS airspace, flight waiver applications, and compliance purposes. Ensure the UAS program is FAA compliant and always operating within our acceptable risk matrix.
  • Ensure the drone fleet has the appropriate aviation insurance coverage.
  • Educate Project Managers, Client Services, and Operations team members on what the Remote Sensing/Data Acquisition service can be applied to existing and future projects. External client BD through presentations as requested by PM's and other SWCA team members.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with strategic vendors to support the data management/analytic ecosystem as well as near-real-time earth satellite data access.
  • Work with the Data Science/AI team to innovate new ways to fuse and analyze data through the implementation of computer vision and AI.
  • Track data acquisition activity and revenue monthly, and prepare business cases as needed for future investments.

Experience and qualifications for success

Qualified candidates will demonstrate an appropriate combination of the following additional competencies and skills:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in geospatial data and systems.
  • 10+ years related experience in data-driven project management operations in the AEC industry; 3-4 years of management experience in a company of similar or larger size required.
  • Proven track recordofdeliveringcomplex solutions on time and on budget.
  • Ability to lead a team and resolve issues that arise in an efficient and diplomatic manner.
  • Regulartravel toregional officesto meet withmanagers andteam members.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

An employee in this position can expect an annual salary of $122,720-$163,280/year. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
