Job Title: Mechanical Systems Engineer

Project Overview:

Join us as we make history at the Hanford Vit Plant, known as the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant. We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.

Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will participate in the design, development, and evaluation of mechanical components and processes. You will collaborate and support other engineering disciplines for mechanical matters. Your professional work knowledge and abilities through the application of standard mechanical engineering techniques and criteria will enable you to make impactful contributions to the team.

This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership

Major Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the design, development,?modification and evaluation of mechanical components and?processes used utilizing?relevant Engineering Department Procedures?(EDPs), design standards and guides, and client?Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)
  • Compiles, adjusts, and correlates data that will?develop professional work knowledge and?abilities through the application of standard?mechanical engineering techniques,?procedures and criteria utilizing relevant?Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs),?design standards and guides, and client?Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)
  • Provides direct support to other engineering?disciplines for mechanical related matters
  • Researches, designs, develops, and?evaluates mechanical components, products,?and systems by using applied mechanical?engineering principles
  • Coordinates development and presentation of?material when requested



Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical (or related) Engineering or in lieu of degree a minimum of 4-5 years of relevant work experience
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge)
