DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for conducting routine, scheduled, and emergency maintenance of tunnels and portal buildings. Your tasks will involve manually cleaning gutter lines, inlets, and drainage systems, as well as sweeping garages, outdoor plazas, tunnel offices, and fan floors. You will also engage in painting facilities, repairing tunnel structural components, and clearing debris from upper air-chamber floors and roofs. Additionally, you will collect litter around facilities and tunnel entrances, mow grass, and maintain the grounds. Key responsibilities include managing incidents that disrupt traffic flow, utilizing equipment, tools, fire extinguishers, and materials to assist motorists and first responders in restoring normal traffic conditions. This encompasses towing or pushing disabled vehicles, controlling traffic, removing debris, and performing minor repairs on motorists' vehicles. You will monitor tunnel conditions for traffic flow, carbon monoxide levels, fire hazards, over-height vehicles, and other incidents deviating from normal operations, ensuring effective communication with PennDOT employees and first responders through phone, radio, and in-person interactions to maintain situational awareness. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, rotating 24/7 operations.
- Work hours are varied and are based upon operational considerations. Shifts can range from the following: 9:30PM - 5:30 AM; 5:30 AM - 1:30 PM; 1:30 PM - 9:30 PM, with 30-minute lunch.
- Travel, overtime and shift work required.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of experience in roadway maintenance and repair, emergency services, towing and roadside assistance, or traffic control work; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- All positions require possession of an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations.
- All employees must demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission.
- All employees must possess an active Pennsylvania Class A Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed, or equivalent on their first day of employment.
- All employees must obtain within the probationary period an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders.
- All positions in this job require additional certifications issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation on assigned pieces of equipment during the probationary period.
