Job Summary

Reporting to the Director - Strategic Partnerships & Campaign Initiatives, the Lead Foundation Specialist - Major Gifts is responsible for identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major donors for assigned donors and prospective donors. Participates as a member of the Major Gifts Team to meet Corewell Health Foundation West Michigan and Helen DeVos Children's Hospital Foundation fundraising goals through work with foundation team members, volunteers, physicians and hospital leaders who are helping to cultivate and solicit prospects. Works with the leadership of assigned service line(s) - e.g., oncology, cardiology, etc. - serving as liaison to collaborate on philanthropic cultivation of grateful patents and stewardship of donors. Takes an assigned responsibility in fundraising campaigns.

Essential Functions
  • Qualifies, engages, solicits and stewards major gift prospects with $50k+ capacity to meet established performance metrics and financial targets.
  • Builds and maintains a portfolio of 100-120 prospects of $50k+ capacity.
  • Gains a comprehensive understanding of fundraising priorities and, more broadly, Corewell Health (West) and Helen DeVos Children's Hospital.
  • Works with assigned service line(s) under the direction of the Director - Strategic Partnerships & Campaign Initiatives and with the appropriate physicians and administrators to collaborate on philanthropic cultivation of grateful patents and stewardship of donors.
  • Works closely with the Lead Foundation Specialist - Planned Giving to ensure that the process of identifying, screening, rating, cultivating and soliciting major gift prospects includes consideration of planned gifts when appropriate.
  • Serves as a member of the campaign team and participates in developing campaign strategies and plans, as assigned. Takes on tasks related to the current campaign(s).
  • Participates in the Foundation's prospect management process by recording required contact reports in SPARK and providing timely information on prospects and solicitation plans in regularly scheduled Major Gifts Meetings.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patients, physicians and employees of Corewell Health. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriate settings.
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, public health, business, or related field
  • 10 years of relevant experience in fund development or related field.

Preferred

  • Master's Degree and/or fundraising certification
  • Proficient in computer application skills, including donor tracking (Blackbaud products, preferred), word processing, spreadsheet, planning, scheduling and database programs.
  • Evidence of working successfully with sophisticated volunteers and committees
  • A strong record of closing gifts of five- and six-figures
  • Both major gift and capital campaign experience
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and motivate people to make gifts in support of a specific department or program.
