Job Summary
Performs, interprets and correlates clinical laboratory tests by following departmental protocols to assist in physician diagnosis and treatment. Prepares specimens for testing, screens patient specimens, and analyzes patient specimens for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Performs quality control procedures, and assists in maintaining an efficient and effective laboratory operation. May serve as a generalist or as a limited specialist.
Essential Functions
  • Operates laboratory equipment and performs functions including: calibration, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, instrument validation studies, quality control, proficiency testing, and documentation.
  • Reads, interprets and correlates clinical test results with patient history, diagnosis, and clinical condition in order to explain test results. Documents and communicates significant information and special occurrences which may affect test results to the appropriate clinician.
  • Routinely checks supplies and reagents in order to ensure adequate supply levels. Ensures that reagents are properly labeled and dated.
  • Directs work of laboratory assistants or laboratory services representatives and auxiliary personnel as appropriate.
Qualifications
  • Required Bachelor's Degree in related field
  • 1 year of relevant experience a related field Preferred
  • CRT-Medical Technologist, Certified (MT) - ASCP American Society for Clinical Pathology Spectrum Health labs except for Toxicology Upon Hire required Or
  • CRT-Medical Laboratory Scientist - ASCP American Society for Clinical Pathology Spectrum Health labs except for Toxicology Upon Hire required Or
  • CRT-American Medical Technologist, Certified (AMT) - AMT American Medical Technologists Spectrum Health labs except for Toxicology Upon Hire required Or
  • CRT-Clinical Toxicology - AACC American Association for Clinical Chemistry Toxicology Dept Only Upon Hire required
