Job Summary
We are seeking a visionary leader to join our team as the Director of Retail and Specialty Pharmacy Operations. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of our pharmacy services and drive significant growth and expansion. The Director of Retail and Specialty Pharmacy Operations will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing our retail and specialty pharmacy services across Corewell Health. With 13 retail locations and comprehensive front-end and dispensing specialty pharmacy services, this role is crucial in defining and implementing our pharmacy strategy. You will lead a dedicated team of approximately 175 FTEs, focusing on aligning and enhancing our service lines to achieve both positive patient outcomes and organizational goals.
Responsible and accountable for leading all aspects of retail and specialty pharmacy teams, facilities, and services. Participates in the planning and ongoing assessment and strategic direction of the retail and specialty pharmacy business lines. Responsible for assuring the coordination, quality, and cost effectiveness of operations provided in the retail and specialty pharmacies. Executes retail and specialty pharmacy department strategies that drive business and service goals and objectives. Responsible for all quality, patient safety, employee productivity, innovation, patient experience, and financial targets while ensuring compliance with organizational and accreditation standards and state and federal requirements.
Essential Functions
  • Oversee the daily operations of specialty and retail pharmacy locations. Plan, implement, and direct pharmacy operations to ensure efficient and effective service delivery. Develop and optimize workflow processes, manage resources, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards to achieve organizational goals.
  • Create and implement strategic plans for both specialty and retail pharmacy services aligned with the overall goals and objectives of Corewell Health. Collaborate with other healthcare leaders to integrate services into the broader system to enhance patience outcomes and service delivery.
  • Conduct regular market analysis to understand industry trends, patient needs and competitive landscape. Adapts strategies based on market insights to maintain a competitive edge and meet evolving patient demands.
  • Monitor and ensure financial accountability by identifying opportunities to increase revenue and reduce costs. Utilize financial data to guide decision-making, implement cost-saving strategies, and prioritize investments that enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
  • Lead efforts to ensure smooth transitions when new strategies, technologies, or processes are introduced. Develop practical plans, communicate clearly with everyone involved, and support staff as they adjust to changes.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to maintain regulatory and accreditation compliance and uphold industry standards of professional practice, state and federal laws.
  • Build and support high-performing teams by mentoring and developing leaders across pharmacy services. Promote sharing of best practices and innovative ideas to improve pharmacy operations.
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree of pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy
  • 7 years of relevant experience working in an acute care, retail, specialty or other pharmacy environment comparable to the complexity of Corewell Health System.
  • 3 years of relevant experience with specialty pharmacy services, including medication therapy management, patient support programs and sales strategies. Familiarity with retail pharmacy operations, including inventory management, customer service, and payer contracting.
  • 5 years of relevant Pharmacy leadership experience in a multi-site role.
  • LIC-Clinical Pharmacist - STATE_MI State of Michigan 180 Days required
  • LIC-Pharmacist Controlled Substance - STATE_MI State of Michigan 180 Days required

Preferred

  • Master's Degree healthcare administration, business administration or management, or related field
  • Successful completion of American Society of Health System Pharmacy accredited PGY1 program or equivalent experience
  • Successful completion of American Society of Health System Pharmacy accredited PGY2 program or equivalent experience
  • Active involvement in professional Pharmacy organizations (ex: ASHP)
