About the Department
The University Benefits Office of North Carolina State University administers statutory and voluntary benefit programs, as authorized by the General Assembly of North Carolina, the Office of State Human Resources, and the UNC System of Institutions for over 10,000 full-time and temporary employees. The University Benefits office is responsible for managing the overall design, compliance, administration, communication, implementation, and maintenance of benefit and leave programs. In addition to health/welfare and retirement benefits, the University Benefits office also has the responsibility of directing New Employee Orientation (Onboarding), and Leave Administration.
Essential Job Duties
As a Benefits and Leave Specialist with University Human Resources, you'll play a key role in ensuring employees receive the support they need during critical moments, from parental leave to health challenges. Ideal for those who are early in their HR career and eager to make a difference, this role combines compassionate guidance with technical expertise to impact employee well-being.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Guide employees and stakeholders through leave programs, ensuring a clear understanding of rights, responsibilities, and available support.
  • Coordinate and administer various leave processes, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Assist with the university's Extended Absence System and collaborate with other HR teams to resolve cases efficiently.
  • Provide compassionate support for employees on leave, ensuring their benefits continue seamlessly.
  • Work closely with the Benefit Deduction Team to process and collect premium payments for employees on leave.

Qualifications


Minimum Experience/Education
Bachelor's degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Other Required Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and strong computer skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with a focus on understanding and meeting diverse needs.
  • Demonstrated Experience that showcases your skills in analysis, organization, and problem-solving.
  • Proven experience supporting and connecting with individuals at various levels across the organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and follow through on projects.
  • Basic ability to interpret and understand various plan documents, policies, procedures, and legal guidelines.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant experience in benefits administration or equivalent work.
  • Familiarity with federal and state benefits, leave laws, and employee entitlements.
