Scope of Position

Pharmacy Technician Services is responsible for assisting the licensed pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical services to patients, as well as providing necessary services and information to nursing and medical staff.These services include preparation and packaging of medications, distribution of medications, supplies and equipment, maintaining proper inventory levels, ensuring medications are in date and secure, keeping appropriate records and documentation, and submitting patient charges/credits.May have familiarity with hardware configurations, software applications, and file store systems as they relate to pharmacy automation systems.These positions are also responsible for supporting initiatives of area supervisors and managers.

Position Summary

Under the direction of a pharmacist and in coordination with other technicians, the Pharmacy Technician I is responsible for packaging, preparation, and distribution of medications, inventory control, customer service and maintaining pharmacy records. The Technician must participate in continual training opportunities provided by the department to develop ongoing skills in other areas of the pharmacy. The Technician must comply with all rules and regulations of the hospital and pharmacy department. If registered as a pharmacy technician trainee with the OH Board of Pharmacy, the Technician must complete OSU Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC) employer-based training program. This position must also complete PTCB or NHA certification within 270 days of the hire date and update OH Board of Pharmacy registration status to Certified Registered once requirements are met, unless such certification and registration status is in place upon hire. All technicians must maintain a current PTCB or NHA certification and OH Board of Pharmacy Certified Registered Technician status throughout employment in order to work as a pharmacy technician at OSUWMC Department of Pharmacy.

Minimum Qualifications

High School graduate or equivalent. Certified Pharmacy Technician. 0 years of relevant experience required. 0-2 years of relevant experience preferred.
