Brookline Health and Human Services seeks a Tobacco Coordinator to provide professional, administrative, and technical support to the Town of Brookline's regional Tobacco Collaborative. The Tobacco Coordinator oversees day-to-day operations of the Regional Collaborative, facilitates communication, and conducts outreach in support of the Collaborative's goal to reduce tobacco and nicotine use. This individual will work closely with the participating communities to coordinate all day to day activities of the collaborative, including travel throughout the communities as needed, grant development and compliance, and recruiting and supervising youth for compliance checks in accordance with MA Department of Public Health guidelines. Performs other duties as assigned.
This position is contingent on continued annual grant funding.
Essential Functions:

- Assists into developing and implementing tobacco control policy work plans for the participating communities, including policy development, enforcement, and merchant and community education in accordance with Massachusetts Department of Public Health policies.
- Coordinates day-to-day operations of the regional collaborative including activities, meetings, trainings, presentations, and evaluation assessments. Coordinates and staffs the regional tobacco advisory committee.
- Ensures timely submission of all Collaborative reports, including submitting programmatic and fiscal reports to the Department of Public Health.
- Coordinate and provides merchant and accompanying community education regarding minor tobacco and nicotine product access and second-hand smoke exposure issues. Attends policy development coalition meetings as appropriate.
- Develop work plans and other activities with other Massachusetts Tobacco Control (MTCP) grantees. Participate in meetings/trainings including MTCP Coalition meetings and attend all trainings/meetings required by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
- Facilitates communication within the collaborative, ensuring effective collaboration among member communities. Collaborates with members and related agencies to monitor and evaluate the collaborative's effectiveness, progress, and outcome measures.
- Conducts community outreach to recruit and train youth for compliance checks according to Massachusetts Department of Public Health guidelines.
- Coordinates and conducts tobacco control youth/underage access tobacco compliance checks in five participating communities to include timely reporting of results.
- Travels throughout participating communities as needed. Attend occasional events/meetings which may occur outside normal working hours.
- Effectively communicates Collaborative policies, initiatives, and mission to merchants and community agencies and departments within and around the Town of Brookline.
- Attends relevant trainings to stay informed about local and national trends in tobacco prevention and public health policies. Identifies and organizes training opportunities and workshops for coalition members and the community.
- Collaborates with staff to write and submit grant proposals and annual continuation grants to sustain collaborative efforts. Coordinates grant compliance activities, ensuring adherence to programmatic and financial requirements.
- Coordinates and distributes meeting minutes, updates, and materials.
- Assists with other health education, analysis, research, and community engagement, as needed.
- Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Public Policy, or related field. One to three years of experience working with health issues, community-based programs, and local government with knowledge of tobacco issues preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and computer proficiency required. Experience working with coalitions, community partnerships, youth development, or similar prevention initiatives preferred. Valid driver's license required.
Knowledge, Ability, and Skills:
Knowledge: Considerable working knowledge of evidence-based tobacco prevention strategies, community prevention, and public health principles. General knowledge of state and local governmental structures, decision-making processes, and organization.
Ability: Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations and community stakeholders. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for community events and meetings. Ability to adapt to changing environments and receive constructive feedback. Ability to effectively establish and maintain collaborative professional relationships. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Multi- or bilingual ability desirable.
Skill: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Strong project management, grant writing, and grant management skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and digital platforms (e.g., Zoom, Canva, Microsoft Teams). Strong time management skills (organization, prioritization, multitasking).
