AltaGas - E&I Technician (Griffith, IN)

Position Summary

AltaGas is seeking an Electrical & Instrumentation Technician for our Griffith, IN team! The E&I Technician ensures electrical and instrumentation maintenance and field operations at the petroleum storage facility, focusing on equipment upkeep and safe installations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow all HSSE and OMS protocols.
  • Maintain terminal equipment and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Monitor and maintain equipment for safe, efficient 24/7 operations.
  • Work independently, demonstrating motivation and initiative.
  • Communicate effectively with management, peers, and contractors.
  • Manage multiple tasks and share knowledge with others.

Tasks Include:

  • Take meter and gauge readings.
  • Perform equipment maintenance and facility housekeeping, involving physical labor activities such as lifting, hammering, wrenching, pulling, or climbing.
  • Conduct quality assurance tasks and sampling.
  • Repair control valves, meters, transmitters, and switches.
  • Oversee contractor compliance with OMS procedures.
  • Utilize computers for logging, training, and communication.
  • Complete safety documentation (e.g., lock-out/tag-out, permits).
  • Work with VFD controls, PLCs, programming, and equipment calibration.
  • Maintain terminal automation, SCADA systems, and related equipment.
  • Follow preventive maintenance programs and document completed tasks.

Qualifications & Skills

  • 2-year technical degree or equivalent experience.
  • Able to work long shifts (up to 15 hours) and in various weather conditions.
  • On-call availability 24/7 is required for emergencies.
  • Physical capability to lift 50 pounds and climb up to 50 feet.
  • Experience with PLCs, pumps, motors, instrumentation, and mechanical systems.
  • Effective communication skills and math proficiency.
  • Basic to intermediate Microsoft Office skills.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Pre-employment substance testing and a background check are also required.

Preferred Experience

  • 5+ years in the pipeline/oil industry.
  • Proficiency in reading electrical/mechanical diagrams.
  • Familiarity with pressure control devices and valves.
  • Knowledge of Allen Bradley PLCs, AccuLoads, and communication protocols.

The hourly pay rate for this role is $45.67 per hour.

About AltaGas' Griffith Operations

Owned and operated by AltaGas, the Griffith LPG terminal directly supports domestic propane and butane marketing efforts. Equipped with inbound and outbound truck and rail infrastructure, the terminal is capable of handling approximately 12,000 Bbls/d and can be easily expandable to 30,000 Bbls/d. Underground caverns provide 700,000 barrels of storage and rail siding capacity exists for up to 220 railcars. Storage services are provided on a fee-for-service basis including to pipeline-connected refiners.
