The Lead Material Handler will be responsible for overseeing the daily activities of material handlers, ensuring efficient and accurate movement of materials throughout the warehouse. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of material handling equipment and procedures, and a commitment to safety and quality.

Location: Bensenville, IL

Key Responsibilities:



  1. Team Leadership:


    • Provide leadership and guidance to material handlers, ensuring adherence to company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
    • Assign tasks and responsibilities to material handling team members based on workload and priorities, ensuring timely completion of tasks.
    • Train and mentor new material handlers, providing instruction on proper equipment operation, safety protocols, and warehouse procedures.


  2. Material Handling Operations:


    • Oversee the movement, storage, and staging of materials within the warehouse, utilizing forklifts, pallet jacks, and other equipment as needed.
    • Coordinate the loading and unloading of trucks, ensuring accurate counts and documentation of incoming and outgoing shipments.
    • Conduct regular inspections of material handling equipment and report any maintenance or repair needs to the appropriate personnel.


  3. Inventory Management:


    • Assist in the receiving, counting, and inspection of incoming materials, verifying accuracy against purchase orders and packing slips.
    • Maintain organized storage areas for materials, ensuring proper labeling, stacking, and rotation to facilitate efficient picking and replenishment.


  4. Order Fulfillment Support:


    • Collaborate with warehouse supervisors to prioritize picking and staging of materials for customer orders.
    • Assist in the preparation of shipments, including packaging, labeling, and documentation, to ensure accurate and on-time delivery to customers.
    • Troubleshoot any issues or discrepancies related to order fulfillment and communicate with relevant stakeholders to resolve them promptly.


  5. Safety and Compliance:


    • Enforce safety policies and procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe operating practices for material handling equipment.
    • Conduct regular safety inspections and observations, identifying potential hazards and addressing them proactively to maintain a safe work environment.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards for inventory control, handling of hazardous materials, and workplace safety.



Qualifications:



  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in logistics or supply chain management is a plus.
  • Proven experience as a material handler or similar role in a warehouse or distribution center.
  • Valid forklift certification and demonstrated proficiency in operating material handling equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and supervise a team of material handlers effectively.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of inventory management principles and warehouse operations best practices.
  • Familiarity with computerized inventory management systems (WMS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
