Responsibilities

In conjunction with the Trauma Medical Director, is responsible for the organization of services and systems necessary for a multidisciplinary approach to providing care to injured patients and for managing, promoting, evaluating and directing the day-to-day operations of the Trauma Program. Provides direction for patient care across the continuum in collaboration with the trauma team physicians, sub-specialists, nursing and ancillary services. The Trauma Coordinator is a registered nurse who is responsible for promoting optimal trauma care, through clinical activities, professional and public education, administrative functions, and quality improvement activities. The Trauma Coordinator is responsible for the Trauma PI Program, Trauma Registry, and Community Injury Prevention Programs. Works in conjunction with outside agencies including EMS and other regulatory agencies. Close communication with these groups allows the coordinator to function as a stabilizing force in the multidisciplinary care required by the trauma patient. This involvement begins with the pre-hospital care of the patient, care in the emergency department, and extends through admission to discharge home, transfer to an institution with a higher level of care, entering into a rehabilitation program, or death. It is important for the coordinator to establish and maintain a communication system with all departments and individuals involved in the care of trauma patients.



Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

    Graduation from an accredited school of nursing required. Bachelor of Science, preferred.
  1. Current licensure State Board of Nurse Examiners.
  2. Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
  3. Current ACLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
  4. Current PALS (AHA) or ENPC certificate upon hire and maintain current.
  5. TNCC required
  6. Minimum of three years in emergency nursing and in the care of trauma patients.
