Technician III - Donnelly Lab (CVM)

The Department of Clinical Sciences at the College of Veterinary Medicine seeks a Lab Technician III to support the Donnelly Lab. Research in the lab focuses onreproduction in large animals (horses and cattle) using high throughput molecular approaches. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the primary responsibilities in this position will be to oversee bench-based laboratory experiments, laboratory administration, student training, and assisting in project management as directed. This is a 1-year, full-time position with the possibility of extension based on successful performance and continued funding.

The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain all inventory and ensure the lab is well-stocked
  • Provide instruction and training to lab members as directed
  • Ensure laboratory safety practices are followed, including the use and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials
  • Perform project benchwork and research, including routine molecular biology techniques (PCR, ELISA, etc.) and assist with animal projects (daily care, sample collection, etc).
  • Maintain equipment, including routine checks and troubleshooting
  • Coordinate testing and services with other departments as directed

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree with up to two years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Prior relevant academic or industry experience
  • Possess the technical knowledge and skills necessary to work independently, troubleshoot problems, and manage the lab
  • Effective communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Box, and Google Workplace
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects effectively

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biology or related field
  • Experience working in a research laboratory setting
  • Proficient in equine handling
  • Knowledgeable with lab safety protocols, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and managing technical logistics in a research setting
  • Familiar with techniques such as immunofluorescent staining, PCR, DNA/RNA isolation and purification, ELISA assays, and blood/tissue processing

Important Details about the Position

  • This is an onsite position located in Ithaca, NY.
  • This is a 1-year term position with potential for extension contingent upon funding and performance
  • We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship, now or in the future, for this position.
  • Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.

While the regular business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, the specific schedule may change to meet the needs of the business, requiring employees to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and University holidays and scheduled breaks.
