Teaching Assistant (Online)

International Partnership, Winter-Weekend, Live-Online, Fully Remote

Grades 5 - 6 & 7 to 9

Winter-weekend online courses offer students the opportunity to engage with like-minded peers on a topic of interest over eight weekends during live, synchronous online sessions. Course content is one to two years above grade level to meet the needs of CTD's academically talented student population. Courses are paced to allow for alternating periods of talking, listening and hands-on activities, as well as individual work and group work. 2 TA's, one bilingual from partner organization, are provided for each class. Teaching Assistants work closely with instructors to provide safe, challenging, and differentiated experiences in the live, online classroom. They supervise students during independent tasks, small group projects, and whole group instruction, and monitor digital communications & resources posted through the CTD learning management system, Schoology, and during the live online classes. TA's are responsible for one "office hour" after each class meeting.

Hourly Pay

$20 per hour (3 hours class time, 1 "office hour" + 2 additional hours of grading/prep time per week)

Course Dates & Times

  • Friday nights 7 - 10 p.m. CST
  • Office Hour 10 - 11 p.m. CST

First class will be Friday, February 14th. Program will run for 8 - weeks. There will be no class Friday, April 18th (Easter Weekend). One additional "pad" week is built into the schedule in the event a class needs to be cancelled due to teacher unavailability or emergency.

Grades 7 - 9

  • Introduction to Biomedicine
  • Bubbles and Crashes: Introduction to Psychology
  • Brain and Behavior: Introduction to Psychology
  • Aerospace Engineering

Training:

  • One or two brief Zoom training sessions will be required before the session.

Qualifications

  • Current or past enrollment in a college undergraduate (or higher) degree program required.
  • Experience working with Schoology or a similar LMS (Google Classroom, Canvas, etc.) preferred
  • Previous experience working with children in a classroom, camp, or online setting preferred.

General Responsibilities

  • Learn and implement CTD policies and procedures.
  • Uphold and promote the CTD Honor Code among staff and students.
  • Follow CTD rules and regulations concerning staff conduct and appropriate dress.
  • Assume program-related responsibilities as requested by Program Coordinator and/or
  • Instructor, including attendance at training session.
  • Provide instructional support in collaboration with Instructor, including small group facilitation and individual support.
  • Assist with student tech issues and provide one-on-one support as appropriate inseparate digital spaces with students
  • Document student participation and progress toward learning outcomes.
  • Supervise student breakout-room groups and assist them with transition times.
