Position Summary |
The School of Filmmaking's Graduate Program is seeking a candidate for a full-time regular faculty position to begin in the fall of 2025. A qualified candidate will have a proven track record both professionally and pedagogically in the areas of fiction film and television development and production. This appointment is for a mid-career applicant with significant professional accomplishments as a screenwriter, with at least three years of teaching at the college level or comparable experience in academic or artistic contexts.

The ideal candidate will also have the versatility and vision to help shape the program to meet the requirements of a constantly evolving profession.
We are a joint program in creative producing and screenwriting. We are looking for a candidate who can teach our core curriculum courses primarily in the screenwriting discipline. We are also interested in candidates that can add other areas of expertise such as non-fiction filmmaking, directing, experimental film, cinema studies or animation, as well as those who have multi-hyphenate and interdisciplinary approaches to filmmaking. |
Description of Responsibilities and Duties |
- Teach graduate courses predominantly in the areas of screenwriting but also in non-fiction, directing, experimental film, cinema studies, or animation.
- Act as academic advisor and mentor.
- Evaluate students on a regular basis and participate in thesis evaluation at the end of the year.
- Attend Faculty meetings and any other meetings deemed necessary by the dean.
- Assist in the admissions process by interviewing prospective students.
- Participate in student recruitment by traveling to undergraduate colleges to speak about our program.
- Participate on committees as needed.
- Abide by and support all School of Filmmaking policies and procedures as outlined in the School of Filmmaking Student Handbook and Safety Handbook.
- Ability to perform work on campus during the school year.
- Other duties as assigned by the dean.

Required Qualifications |
An earned doctorate/terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline,
OR equivalent professional/experiential qualifications,
ORequivalent combination of education and professional experience. |

UNCSA utilizes a multi-year contract system in lieu of tenure. |
