Job Summary/Objective We are seeking a Senior Development Engineer who will support the growth initiatives of Southwire in the Advanced Materials and Metallurgy group. Under limited direction, the successful candidate will perform a variety of complex engineering assignments requiring in-depth knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and materials engineering. The Candidate will act as a Project Manager leading a team with diverse experiences and disciplines such as Product Management, Operations, Certification and Test labs towards the successful design, manufacturing, and commercialization of new products and processes. The candidate shall adhere to and follow a Stage Gate development process to ensure that products are well designed and manufactured according to the highest standard of safety, quality, and regulatory codes. The individual will proactively seek ways to reduce costs within Southwire's processes and products through nimble learning and new idea generation. Key Responsibilities * Create mechanical and/or electrical designs to fabricate prototypes needed for experiments. * Properly document, track and analyze samples created in the R&D process. * Work independently to research new and emerging technologies in both the manufacturing and materials spaces. * Project Management for key technical initiatives being explored by Advanced Materials and Metallurgy. * Managing multiple projects that explore new and emerging technologies related to the Advanced Materials Group. * Design and Execute Lab based experiments to move into manufacturing experiments to support R&D objectives. * Document and analyze samples and production outcomes as per experimental designs. * Write reports on experiments using statistical data analysis - use of Minitab or similar to interpret results of experiments to lead projects to completion. * Interact and report to the Project Approval Committee (PAC) through meetings and Accolade Stage Gate Environment * Interact with key personnel in operations, finance, EH&S, sales etc. to champion R&D projects. Education, Experience, and Skills Required Minimum Education Level: Bachelor's Specialized Degree: Engineering - Mechanical, Elect, Materials, etc. Certificates: Southwire Forklift License, Pass Southwire Vehicle Driver Screening Years of Experience: 3+ Field of Expertise: Manufacturing, Materials, Machine Preferred Minimum Education Level: Master's Specialized Degree: MS - Engineering Certificates: Project Management Years of Experience: 3+ Preferred Field of Expertise: Project Management Other Other Preferred Skills, Licenses, & Certificates: 3D CAD - Solid Works or Autodesk Inventor Computer modeling experience, ie. Ansys, Comsol etc.. Design for Six Sigma Design of Experiment & Hypothesis Testing Basic programming skills to build data acquisition as necessary. LabView Proficiency Minitab MS Office & Excel Competencies
