In this state approved CTE program, students learn the competencies of Construction Trades (CIP 46.0000) with a strong emphasis on applied, authentic learning experiences. Duties and Responsibilities (These duties and responsibilities are judged to be "essential functions" in terms of the Americans With Disabilities Act or ADA)
- Prepare students to demonstrate proficiency in the state approved competencies for CIP 46.0000.
- Ensure that safety is priority #1. Ensure students have passed safety assessments and demonstrated proficiency in the use of all tools and equipment prior to their use.
- Assess and measure student growth.
- Provide students with the opportunity to earn certification(s) approved by the State of MI to meet the Perkins V quality program indicator as well as other supplemental certifications.
- Provide CTSO or equivalent leadership experiences for all students that meet state requirements.
- Provide work-based learning (WBL) experiences for all students annually.
- Perform all required activities, prepare documentation of the same, and submit evidence documents for the CIP Self-review into GEMS CTE Portal annually.
- Update/revise curriculum, as needed to meet state and federal requirements.
- Facilitate/participate in a minimum of 2 program advisory committee meetings each year.
- Continue to build upon and foster positive relationships with program partners.
- Collaborate with others to resolve challenges in a professional, constructive, respectful manner.
- Maintain a well-organized and safe learning environment, paying particular attention to tools and equipment.

- Bachelor's Degree, required, with CTE Teaching Certification or qualify for an Annual CTE Authorization (ACA). An ACA requires documentation of 4,000 hours of recent and relevant work experience within the past 10 years.
- Occupational Certificate must have one of the following concentrations: 46.0000, 46.9901, 17.1000, 17.1001, 17.1004, 17.1010, 17.0500, 20.0601, 46.0401, 17.1008, 17.1700, 04.0900
- Current Home Builder's license preferred or commitment to obtain one within the first year, required.
- OSHA Certified, preferred or commitment to earn 30hr OSHA certification, required.
Experience:
- Previous experience working with high school students/special needs students, in a construction learning environment, preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in residential construction with proficiency in: foundations; rough framing; roofing; siding; window/door installation; residential wiring & plumbing; insulation; masonry; drywall; and finish carpentry.
- Experience with proper and safe use of power tools, hand tools, and scaffolding used in a construction environment, required.
- Experience with hi-low preferred. Willingness to learn proper use of hi-low, required.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge in residential construction (foundations; rough framing; roofing; siding; window/door installation; wiring & plumbing; insulation; masonry; drywall; and finish carpentry) required.
- Knowledge of operating a hi-low vehicle, required.
- Knowledge of employability skills including career searches, resume writing, career paths, post-secondary educational and apprenticeship options, preferred.
- Knowledge of school policies and safety regulations, required.
Skills:
- Skills in the correct and safe use of all hand tools, power tools, and equipment needed for program implementation of CIP 46.0000, required.

- Ability to work on ladders, scaffolding, and similar situations that involve heights, and being able to do heavy lifting (90lbs), required.
- Ability to follow and model all OSHA and district safety precautions and procedures and teach students in the correct and safe operation of all tools and equipment, required.
- Ability to read blueprints/interpret CAD drawings of structure being built, required.
- Ability to use all computer-based applications necessary to fulfill all requirements.
- Ability to be caring, understanding, and friendly towards students, required.
- Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form, required.
- Ability to operate a hi-low, required.
