GENERAL SUMMARY:

Accompanies physicians with examinations and procedures to serve the medical needs of patients with various health conditions in a professional, confidential, and caring manner. Coordinates the flow of patients, phone calls, lab work, and nurse visits to facilitate quality patient care and customer service goals.

Provides professional care within the educational background of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and in compliance with any applicable licensure/certification requirement and organization policy and procedures. Responsible for serving on the ambulatory care team for an assigned area including direct patient care as an unlicensed professional and under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), Physician or APP. Incorporates the primary job functions of a certified nursing assistant (CNA) and other duties related to the care of patients, dependent upon the work area and/or patient populations to which they are assigned.

Reports to BPN Practice Manager. Employees holding nursing licensure will be held accountable to Nebraska nursing licensure requirements, and must maintain licensure or an active Nebraska CNA.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. *Maintains flow of patients in accordance with time of appointment in order to avoid delays for the provider and undue waiting for patients.

3. *Keeps the exam rooms clean, disinfected and stocked with necessary supplies.

4. *Obtains vital signs, height and weight and prepares patient for visit.

5. *Assists the medical provider with examinations and procedures under the direction of the medical provider or Registered Nurse.

6. Schedules outpatient tests and procedures at hospitals by telephone in a timely manner; adheres to the referral process of the practice.

7. Schedules follow-up procedure/appointments and specialty appointments.

8. Updates patient demographics and immunization forms as needed.

9. Performs patient call processing as needed.

10. Assists with front desk duties as needed.

11. *Recognizes and reacts to emergency procedures per role and policies/procedures.

12. *Answers telephones and assigned communication devices as appropriate and relays information as necessary. Refers all physician/advanced practice provider telephone orders to a licensed professional.

13. *Assists with patient care that is consistent with standards of care and clinical priorities determined by the RN, physician or APP with the nature of the clinic, BPN policies and procedures, demonstrated competencies, and with consideration given to risk management and infection control practices.

14. *Performs and documents routine direct nursing care tasks according to identified age-specific needs.

15. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

16. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

17. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Maintains clinical competency as required for Nursing Assistant certification.

2. Knowledge of OSHA and HIPPA requirements.

3. Knowledge of healthcare processes and procedures in a medical office environment.

4. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software application relevant to work functions.

5. Knowledge of quality metrics.

6. Skill in organizing work to achieve clinic goals and meet patient/medical provider needs.

7. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all patients, families, clients and staff.

8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff.

9. Ability to work as a team member.

10. Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills.

11. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.

12. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.

14. Ability to exercise courtesy, tact and professionalism.

15. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment relevant to changing patient needs.

16. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or equivalency required . Active Nebraska Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential required. Six (6) months CNA experience preferred.
