The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, located on the George H. Cook Campus, is one of the largest schools of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. We pursue excellence in research, teaching, and outreach in areas of study that address the biological spectrum from molecules to ecosystems. Our emphasis is on both the fundamental sciences and the social and human dimensions.
The Lonergan Laboratory in the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology is seeking a Post Doctoral Associate to join a research project aimed at understanding molecular mechanisms for how bacteria survive in stressed conditions and cause disease using interdisciplinary approaches. The project will uncover mechanisms linking molecular biology of bacterial stress responses to pathogenic outcomes by utilizing a variety of genetic and biochemical methods coupled with animal infection models.

Minimum Education and Experience
Candidates should have a PhD in microbiology, molecular biology, or a closely related field and expertise in performing high throughput genetic screens in bacteria with pathogenic potential. Candidates should also have a demonstrated ability to disseminate results via peer-reviewed publications and presentations.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
This project requires a Post Doctoral Associate with experience in microbiology and molecular genetics as well as an expertise in high throughput genetic screens. Proficiency in microscopy, image analysis, and programming is also preferred.
The researcher will work on cultivating Biosafety Level 2 pathogenic organisms and will include genetic manipulations, physiology-based experimentation, and animal models of infection.
