Overview

HJF is seeking a Research Associate I to perform research and/or development in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff. Exercises technical discretion in the design, execution, and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project strategies. Performs limited analysis and interpretation of results.

This position will be in support of the Military HIV Research Program (MHRP) Cellular Immune Monitoring Core (CIMC). CIMC is a Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP), focused on T-cell-mediated immunity and its functions, primarily against intracellular pathogens like HIV. Cellular Immune Monitoring Core (CIMC) evaluates clinical samples with intracellular staining and other flow cytometry based assays, assessing cell-mediated immunity generated by vaccine products within the MHRP pipeline.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, conducts, and completes experimental work independently, under PI or Scientist supervision. Performs laboratory assays, including collection and organization of data.
  • Takes lead in writing and editing of experimental results for publication in technical and peer-reviewed journals.
  • Performs data analysis.
  • Troubleshoots experiments and assay development.
  • Interpret data and present the findings at internal and external meetings.
  • Coordinate work with other core members and external collaborators
  • Maintains records and documentation regarding assigned research.
  • Documents current or new procedures or protocols for sample selection, data collection, data processing,and/or statistical estimation.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree in Immunology preferred.
  • Minimum of 0-2 years' experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Prior lab experience with CD8 T cell is strongly preferred.
  • Flow Cytometry and FlowJo Analysis experience required, sorting experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of complex laboratory procedures specifically Intracellular Cytokine Staining(ICS).
  • Ability to meet research deadlines.
  • Able to work independently but also as a team.
  • Good communication and analytical skills.
  • Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams; Flow Jo, Graphpad Prism.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $50,100 - $70,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
