This is a hybrid role, with the expectation that time working will regularly take place inside and outside of our San Francisco office. Fintech at SVB Fintech is a unique and specialized practice within the SVB Commercial division of First Citizens which focuses on providing a holistic set of products and services to power VC-backed Fintech companies. The 50+ person group covers the entire country and provides clients with banking, corporate debt, Warehouse facilities, Embedded Payment solutions, and more. Though primarily in San Francisco, New York, and Boston the team has experts located across the country in other cities like Salt Lake City, Austin, and Chicago. The team additionally works cross functionally with Payments, Relationship Advisors, Compliance, and Risk partners across the bank to manage the complex nature of financial services companies. The team particularly focuses on regulated financial services companies across Lending, Real Estate, Capital Markets, Payments, NeoBanks, Wealth Management, Insurance, and Crypto. Fintech Credit Solutions - Accelerator & Growth The Fintech Credit Solutions team manages corporate lending (non-SPV) and payments exposures across the country. The team is split into an early-stage practice (Seed through ~Series D) and a late-stage practice focused on companies that have achieved material scale (~Series D through post-IPO). Fintech Accelerator and Growth provides several types of facilities including lines of credit and term loans, though is primarily focused on Venture Debt (early-stage Growth Capital Term Loans through Mezzanine facilities). The group also provides ACH and payments facilities for high volume originators.
Responsibilities
Located in San Francisco and focused on the early-stage Fintech portfolio (Accelerator and Growth). Primary responsibilities include:
- Manage lending/credit for new corporate debt deals for Fintech companies. Leads the due diligence and deal structuring process and partners with Relationship Management to deliver and negotiate the credit solution.
- Focused on the San Francisco market, but over time cover opportunities/clients in other geographies, primarily across the West Coast, Pacific Northwest, and other parts of the Western United States.
- Owns the underwriting, term sheet negotiation, investor due diligence calls, legal documentation and closing process for debt deals.
- Responsible for the portfolio management of existing deals in the San Francisco Fintech portfolio with a focus on proactive portfolio management, understanding the changing risk profile of clients and communicating with key stakeholders (internal and external).
- Engages with clients independently, building relationships with the appropriate stakeholders, gathering information, and responding to needs.
- Attends Fintech focused conferences and market events in coordination with Relationship Management.
- Manage a team of three Associates and VPs located in San Francisco.
- With support of other leaders, expected to become a leader in team development, including collaboration and coaching across the country.
- Collaborate heavily with peers within the Fintech team (Relationship Management, Corporate Banking Fintech Credit Solutions, Warehouse Lending, and Payments), and across the bank with partners such as Credit, Risk and Compliance.
- Drive Fintech subject matter expertise within the bank and externally (over time) including market, sub-sector, regulatory, and competitive trends.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 8 years of experience OR High School or GED with a minimum of 12 years of experience Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or advanced degree such as MS in Finance to MBA.
- Strong familiarity with Venture Debt and Venture Capital ecosystem.
- Advanced knowledge of portfolio management practices including expertise in evaluating risk and managing changing situations.
- Strong structuring and negotiation skills, closing skills and ability to engage and build trust with clients independently.
- Proven managerial skills able to recruit and develop a team of individuals at various levels from Associate to VP.
The base pay for this position is generally between $160,350 - $277,940 per year. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
