6:00 am - 2:30 pm; Monday - Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours required, as necessary.

Mandatory Position

This position is designated as 'mandatory' and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the building as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions.
Primary Purpose of Position
The position is considered to be fully functioning in a particular trade area. Additionally, this position is expected to be able to perform all general maintenance work at the journey level. This position may also be allowed to perform/learn another trade discipline either at the contributing or advanced level. Tasks may include maintenance, repair, placement, fabrication, installation, alteration, construction, and design of facility components in assigned buildings.
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

University Preferred Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or equivalent and two years experience. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Essential Job Duties
The FM Mechanical Trades Technician performs under the direction of the Maintenance
Operations Plumbing Supervisor.

  • The responsibilities may entail a range of tasks such as maintenance, repair, replacement, fabrication, installation, alteration, construction, and design of facility components. These require planning, problem-solving, attention to detail, teamwork, communication, and adherence to safety.
  • Conduct regular maintenance checks to ensure that the building systems operate efficiently.
  • In the event of mechanical problems, one must diagnose and troubleshoot the issue, referring to blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs if necessary, to determine the appropriate corrective measures.

Other Work Responsibilities

  • As a maintenance technician, there should be knowledge about fire, building, electrical, and mechanical codes to lead and guide other technicians.
  • Ensure compliance with State, Federal, and University regulations without fail
  • Duties must be performed with utmost competence and professionalism by accepted trade practices, with minimal supervision or guidance.
  • May be assigned additional tasks to facilitate the seamless running of operations. (other duties as assigned)

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency and at least two years of experience installing, maintaining, and repairing commercial building systems.
  • Solid working knowledge of commercial plumbing systems and a proven track record in facilities.
  • Plumbing Journeyman Card or Plumbing Technician License.
  • Able to foster and create a teamwork-oriented atmosphere.
  • Communicate effectively in English (reading, writing, interpretation, and comprehension), and have very good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable in Google Chrome, Microsoft Word, and Excel, and willing to learn new programs.
  • The ability to work and interact effectively with all persons.
  • Mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.

Necessary Licenses or Certifications

  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Positions may be required to possess and maintain required certification, licensure, educational level, and/or experience criteria as applicable to the tasks being performed and follow applicable building codes.
