IXL Learning, developer of personalized learning products used by millions of people globally, is seeking an advanced doctoral student / PhD candidate who is passionate about education research and technology to join our marketing team as a Research Scientist Intern for 8 weeks in Summer 2025. The IXL Research team designs and conducts rigorous impact and validity research on our amazing products, which results in research reports, conference proposals, and occasionally journal submissions. #LI-CC1

As a Research Scientist Intern, you will lead at least one quantitative research study to evaluate the impact of IXL on student learning, while acquiring valuable experience alongside research scientists in the largest edtech company in North America. The ideal candidate is motivated, organized, and passionate about the impact of technology on education.

This is a full-time temporary position in our San Mateo office from June 2 to July 25, 2025 or June 16 to August 8, 2025. #LI-ONSITE

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Conduct quasi-experimental research to examine the relationship between IXL usage and student learning outcomes
  • Generate or contribute to new research ideas, research methodologies, and analytical procedures in the field of educational research
  • Gather and analyze internal and external data, and discover useful insights for sales, marketing, and product teams
  • Document and disseminate research results through reports and presentations


WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Advanced doctoral student / PhD candidate in developmental/educational psychology, educational measurement, evaluation, research methods, quantitative psychology, applied statistics, or a related field (required)
  • At least two years of PhD-level coursework in research methods and/or measurement (required)
  • Deep knowledge in experimental design and statistical modeling (e.g., general/-ized linear modeling, multilevel modeling, structural equation modeling, longitudinal analysis)
  • Basic knowledge of psychometrics and measurement theory (preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience with R or Python
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills


IXL Learning provides a total of $20,000 for the 8-week internship. This includes a $15,000 stipend andup to $5,000 housing allowance total.
