The mission of Student Outreach & Support (
SOS) is to help students succeed at The George Washington University by connecting them to support resources, helping them develop plans of action to meet their goals, and navigating challenging circumstances. The
SOS team aims to create an inclusive and welcoming environment to support students in building skills around self-awareness, self-advocacy, resilience, and navigating the university to maximize their GW experience.
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Health Promotion & Education, the Mobility Safety Program Coordinator will be responsible for the coordination, delivery, and evaluation of a mobility safety program for The George Washington University.
Responsibilities include:
- Create, implement, and evaluate programming on scooter, bike, car, and pedestrian safety on campus
- Partner with other universities in the DC area to develop and implement a comprehensive approach to preventing traffic-related injuries and death, including increasing access to alternative transportation, and communication around mobility safety measures
- Partner with local transportation agencies, Foggy Bottom Advisory Neighborhood Commission, and GW SafeRide to increase access to alternative transportation
- Partner with the Orientation, Class Year, & Families Program (OCYFP) to create educational opportunities for incoming students on safely navigating DC for the first time (using bike lanes, helmets, scooter safety, etc.)
- Perform a needs assessment on student attitudes towards impaired mobility, substance use, and access to transportation
- Support GW's substance-use programming, policies, and resources, including providing substance-use interventions in response to student concerns
- Collaborate with students and student organizations to deliver substance-use education and programming
- Support the implementation and evaluation of campus-wide health and wellbeing surveys
- Work closely with Campus Living & Residential Education (CLRE) to implement mobility safety education for residential students
- Attend departmental and division meetings and professional development opportunities
- Assist with the development and implementation of the department's services, programs and events
- Omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position
The position is based at GW's Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC, and will be an in-person role. Due to the nature of this role and its assigned duties, evening and weekend work will occur at least monthly. |
Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/
GED plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. |

Preferred Qualifications: |
- Degree in public health, public administration, public policy, health education, or a related field.
- Interest and/or experience in safe transportation, Vision Zero, and reducing impaired mobility.
- Experience creating, implementing, and evaluating systems-level programs.
- Knowledge of substance-use evidence-based practices and harm reduction strategies.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency with personal computers, newsletters, software, program marketing, and use of database software.
