Job Description

The Vertex Internship Program offers students the opportunity to learn about the pharmaceutical industry from a hands-on perspective. Job Summary:

We are seeking a summer intern to establish preclinical PBPK models that can be utilized in the progression of pipeline compounds to support clinical candidate nomination based upon historical knowledge. The intern will work closely with the preclinical modeling and simulation team, which will drive innovation, to establish PBPK workflows for FIH dose prediction

Key Responsibilities:

  • Under the guidance of a mentor, the research intern will be involved in compiling preclinical data, developing PBPK models, and predicting human PK profiles using translational approaches. The intern will develop and apply relationships across ECCS classifications, including IVIVE to better inform how preclinical PBPK models can be predictive of human PK based on historical data
  • Development of PBPK compound files in Simcyp
  • Summarize findings in posters for presentation internally

Qualifications:

  • Graduate student (MS or PhD) in Pharmacometrics, Pharmacokinetics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacometrics, Applied Mathematics, or related disciplines.
  • The candidate will be proficient in PBPK modeling concepts.
  • Experience with data visualization
  • The candidate should be proficient in Simcyp, GastroPlus, and Phoenix WinNonLin.
  • Proficiency in programming language such as R, Python, or Matlab is a plus
  • Permanent legal authorization to work in the United States
  • Candidate must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before May 2025
  • Candidate must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from May - August 2025
