This is a two-year appointment and is renewable based on both performance and availability of funding. The position requires the individual to work on the UCI Campus as well as live locally to attend court hearings and meetings in the community. The individual selected for this position will primarily focus on the Young Adult Court (YAC) study of Orange County, which is a randomized controlled trial of a specialized court designed for Transitional-Aged-Youth (18 to 25 years old) in Orange County. The YAC is a collaboration between the Defense Attorney, the District Attorney, Probation Officers, the Judge, the Orangewood Foundation, and the University of California, Irvine (https://www.occourts.org/directory/collaborative-courts/YoungAdultCourtSummary.pdf). Dr. Elizabeth Cauffman and her research team are evaluating whether young men processed through the YAC have better long-term outcomes (reduced recidivism; positive mental and physical health; positive socioeconomic) than young men who are processed through the traditional courts. The person selected for this position will also be involved in the Road to Reentry Study, another randomized controlled trial examining whether developmentally-appropriate programming in a jail setting can reduce recidivism and promote positive outcomes among young adults incarcerated in an Orange County jail. Dr. Cauffman and the 3D Laboratory are seeking a highly motivated, organized candidate with superior administrative skills and experience working in research. Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to: The training and supervision of Research Assistants working in the 3D Laboratory, scheduling interviews with study participants both in the community and correctional facilities, assisting in the research and writing of grant proposals and progress reports to funders, and attending collaborative meetings with other agencies partnering in these studies. This individual should have experience working with transitional-aged youth, at-risk populations, and incarcerated individuals, and be comfortable conducting interviews within correctional institutions.
