Job Summary |
Under the direction of the Director the Classroom Aide works under the supervision of the Program Coordinator/Education Specialist and/or classroom teacher. To provide additional classroom support as follows: |
Job Description |
- Assists the teaching team in planning, implementing and evaluating developmentally appropriate activities for young children including the following activities: Self Image, Language/Literacy Development, Music and Movement, Social Studies, Science, Math, Art, Large/Small Motor Activities, and In-Depth Projects.
- Move from classroom-to-classroom based on daily assignments to provide continuous support to classroom teaching staff.
- Assists in providing inclusion support for children with disablities and specail needs.
- Assists with classroom coverage during lunchtime and when back-up coverage is needed.
- Assume responsibility for the management of the classroom during the abamce of regular classroom teaching staff.
- Assists the teaching team in developing a classroom environment that is a welcoming learning environment for children and their families
- Assists with supervision and interaction of children during all activities
- Develops strong partnerships with the families
- Shares responsibility for preparation and clean-up of all classroom activities
- Attends and participates in parent meetings, in-service trainings, and team meetings.
- Assists the classroom teaching staff with supporting the inclusion of diverse learners in classroom routines and activities.
- Maintains reports on children's growth and development
- Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications |

OFFICER
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Possession of credentials required by Illinois Department of Children and Family Services for employment as a Child Care Assistant.

Preferred Qualifications |
Child Development Associate Credential (
CDA)
or 60 semester hours of credits from an accredited college or university with 6 semester hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development, from birth to age 6
or 1 year (1560 clock hours) of child development experience in a nursery school, kindergarten, or licensed day care center and 30 semester hours of credits from an accredited college or university with 6 semester in courses related directly to child care and/or child development, from birth to age 6.
Two years of experience working with children birth - 6 years old

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities |
- Meet all University and DCFS hiring requirements, including background check and -Physical Examination
- Follow all DCFS licensing guidelines and all funding and accreditation standards
- Attend required training and professional development.
- Attain Illinois Gatewy Level 3 credential
