The UHC Medicare and Retirement Healthcare Economics team leads and influences decision making for the Medicare and Retirement line of business. As the Senior Healthcare Economics Analyst you will be challenged to provide data-driven answers to the toughest problems facing the Medicare and Retirement line of business. The primary focus of the team is to identify, analyze, and explain medical trends. You will build and manipulate complex claims datasets to investigate root causes of medical trends. You will drive innovation by creating flexible, Excel-based models to support the ongoing identification of trend drivers and affordability opportunities. Ultimately, the goal of our team is to use data to build a narrative and influence key business decisions.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Identify, analyze, and explain Medicare medical trends using claims-based analyses
  • Use SAS/SQL to construct claims-based datasets
  • Construct polished MS Excel models to satisfy analytical requests
  • Research healthcare topics, incorporate findings into data analyses
  • Provide ongoing, meaningful communications to managers on project status, results and conclusions from analyses

Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree
  • Professional work experience or advanced degree
  • 1+ years of applicable corporate or academic experience in data analytics - examining and summarizing data to uncover insights
  • SQL experience
  • Healthcare experience
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Excel (practical experience working with pivot tables, advanced formulas, graphs, VLOOKUP's)


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Healthcare claims analytics experience
  • Proven to be team oriented and motivated to collaborate
  • Proven advanced attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proven proactive problem-solving abilities

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
