Summary:

Responsible for daily patient care and flow of pod activities. Position requires good understanding of ophthalmic practice and patient care. Knowledge of medical instrumentation and its proper care and usage needed. Ability to assess common safety hazards and take precautions to establish a safe work environment required. Ability to communicate with patients, co-workers and supervisor is critical. Must be willing to help in all areas and understand the need for efficient use of time.

Responsibilities:

  • Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Advanced understanding of ophthalmic anatomy is required, as well as the ability to efficiently scribe for physician.
  • Promptly and professionally assisting the doctor in patient care, collecting patient history and performing patient education.
  • Performing technical workups to include visual acuity, lensometry, color vision, visual field tests (Humphrey and Goldman), manual keratometry, refraction, Amslers, muscle testing, topography, pupil exams, OCT, pachymetry, and other special testing as directed by physician.
  • Advanced technical workups in performing retionscopy and A-Scans as directed by physician.
  • Follows physician protocol for A-Scans and fills in at Special Testing when needed.

Requirements:


  • High School Diploma required.
  • 2 years of experience in an ophthalmology clinic setting required.
  • BLS required.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician required (COT) required.
  • Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC) preferred.
