GENERAL NATURE OF POSITION

The incumbent will contribute to research in the area of real time graphics modeling and simulation of UAV in the U.S. Army TDD Vehicle Management & Control (VMC) Branch at Ames.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct senior level research and development in the primary areas of real time graphics modeling and simulation.
  • Support research and development in the real-time interactive prototype technology integration/development environment (RIPTIDE).
  • Contribute to the software development for CIFER (Comprehensive Identification from Frequency Responses) and STTCH (Full-Envelope Stitched Simulation from Individual Linear Models and Trim Data).



INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS

1) Reports to the project director.

2) Interacts with Foundation research staff and civil service staff on a daily basis.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

None.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications


  • Master's degree in Engineering required. Preferably in Electrical Engineering, with extensive expertise in computer graphics, graphics modeling, and control engineering.
  • Professional senior-level software engineer with minimum of 10 years of hands-on software development experience, specializing in 3D real-time graphics modeling and simulation.
  • Proficient in C++, Qt, Python, OpenSceneGraph (OSG), and FlightGear, with direct hands-on programming experience using RIPTIDE, CIFER, and STITCH.
  • In-depth knowledge in software development cycle, object-oriented software design and development, inter-process and network communication. Knowledge in computer vision, image processing and pattern recognition. Knowledge in flight dynamics and flight instrumentation display is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and organize results for publication and presentation documented by publication record.
  • Excellent written communication skills along with strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective communication skills to establish effective collaborations and interactions with members of the scientific, staff and community.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively in an interdisciplinary team of scientists as well as independently.
  • Able to think independently and strategically and assess solutions for short- and long- term goals.


Additional Requirements

  • Located at the NASA Ames Research Center. Therefore, this employee must meet security qualifications for entrance to the Center.
  • Candidate will be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  • Must be onsite three days a week. Two of the three days must be Wednesday and Thursday; the third can be picked from Monday, Tuesday, or Friday.


Physical Demands

  • Must be willing to travel domestically and internationally.
