The Director of Teaching Institutes Marketing will lead the strategic channel marketing efforts for Smith & Nephew's orthopedic portfolio within U.S. teaching Institutes. This role involves developing and implementing innovative marketing strategies that accelerate the adoption of Smith & Nephew's technologies within these centers with focus on improving presence, encouraging relationships, growing engagement with customers & stakeholders, and working with our sales organization to drive customer conversion within this key channel.

What will you be doing?

Strategic Marketing Planning:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive channel strategy to increase awareness and adoption of Smith and Nephew's technologies within U.S. teaching institutes.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive marketing strategies to promote Smith & Nephew's portfolio within this key channel.
  • Identify and analyze market trends, stakeholder maps, residency/fellowship programs and competitive landscape to advise strategic decisions. Proactively assess, clarify, and validate customer/prospective customer needs on an ongoing basis.
  • Establishes consultative, productive, and professional relationships with existing & new customers in this channel playing an influencer role with key partners and C-level executives within these institutes.

Value Proposition Development & Commercial Execution:

  • Develop a channel specific value proposition that allows Smith & Nephew to deliver the right value for customers working within Teaching Institutes. Ensure the messaging is consistent & aligned with our target customers mission and values in orthopedic care.
  • Work with our sales leaders & sales training team to ensure effective sales force education, funnel management & incentives are in place to complete the channel strategy.
  • Develop and lead marketing campaigns that target potential customers within this channel, using SEO, social media, web and email marketing to drive engagement.
  • Attend & support national/regional conferences as well as local events set up in collaboration with targeted Teaching Institutes.

Collaboration on Fellowship & research programs:

  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with these institutions - work in a collaborative cross functional team to offer strategies that deliver best in class education & research on Smith & Nephew technologies within these institutes.
  • Work with our fellowship team and local sales teams to coordinate educational events, workshops, surgical skills labs in collaboration with the institute to showcase Smith & Nephew advanced technologies and improve the experience of residents and fellows attending training programs within these institutes.
  • Work with our fellowship team to support the effective hand off of fellows at the end of their training and ensure best in class industry experience as they settle into their new practice.
  • Work with our medical education team to develop & manage digital assets that support the education of residents/fellows within these institutes.

Performance Measurement and Reporting:

  • Establish key performance indicators to evaluate the efficiency of the various channel initiatives and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Regularly report on teaching institute sales performance, providing insights and recommendations to Smith & Nephew's leadership on how best to accelerate growth in this channel.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead and mentor the marketing team, encouraging a culture of collaboration, creativity, and professional development.
  • Ensure the team is equipped with the latest tools and resources to execute effective marketing strategies.

Center of Excellence Development & Execution:

  • Work with the sales organization to drive penetration & clinical adoption of Smith & Nephew's technologies within this channel.
  • Work with the medical education teams to develop centers of excellence for the company, that can provide best in class education and surgical skills teaching sites for Smith & Nephew's customers across the country.
  • Partner with orthopedic surgeons, researchers, and clinical staff to ensure Smith & Nephew's strategies and messages are accurately reflected within the medical education programs established for its portfolio.

What will you need to be successful?

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field; MBA or Master's degree in a relevant field preferred.
  • Experience: 10+ years of experience in sales/marketing, with a focus on orthopedics, preferably with experience working with teaching institutes.
  • Leadership Skills: Shown experience in leading and collaborating with high-performing teams. Authoritative knowledge and application of strategic, tactical, and consultative selling principles in a sophisticated key/teaching institution environment. Negotiation, contracting & problem-solving skills.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to interpret market data and adjust strategies optimally. Sophisticated Business acumen including financial savvy and analytical skills as well as refined written and verbal communication.
  • Communication Skills: Strong analytical skills, including market strategy, customer requirements and success factors, and a value based selling process. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; adept at presenting ideas to diverse audiences.
  • Digital Proficiency: Familiarity with digital marketing tools and platforms, including SEO, SEM, social media, and content marketing.
  • Creative Thinking: Innovative mindset with the ability to generate and implement new ideas for marketing campaigns.

  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations, compliance issues, and academic hospital operations.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative and dynamic environment.
  • Strong organizational, project management, sophisticated communication skills with the ability to build impactful presentations.
