[1] Georgia-Pacific is seeking a contribution-motivated Water Engineer to join our Brunswick Cellulose team in Brunswick, GA. The Water Engineer will have oversight of the facility's wastewater treatment plant and water withdrawal programs as well as assist the lab manager with the environmental lab. This position reports to the Mill Environmental Manager and creates value for the organization by ensuring compliance is maintained and risk is identified and mitigated. This position is responsible for managing compliance with applicable state, federal and local environmental regulations pertaining to water and wastewater programs. This role will be focused on ensuring compliance with relevant environmental permits. In addition, this role will support the facility's efforts in conforming to Company policies and procedures, such as Georgia-Pacific's Environmental Performance Standards and reliable operations. To learn more about Brunswick, check out this link: [4] www.brunswickgoldenisleschamber.com What You Will Do * Apply subject matter expertise and excellent communication skills to independently and objectively help operations identify and meet environmental compliance requirements and drive environmental excellence through continuous improvement * Plan and lead assessments of programs to identify opportunities to improve performance * Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of mill processes specifically pertaining to water usage, discharges and their impact on environmental performance that allows you to enable operations teams to meet their environmental obligations and achieve our vision * Oversee routine compliance programs (Wastewater/Stormwater/Water Withdrawal/Cluster Rule BMP/Drinking Water/Corps of Engineers, etc.) to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements * Identify, react to, and manage environmental water/wastewater risks, priorities, key issues, and plans * Provide oversight to operations personnel on mill process sewer loading - this position will support optimization of the wastewater treatment system loading through interaction with operations personnel on KPI performance and upset mitigation * Assist in oversight of environmental laboratory testing * Ensure completion of compliance related activities such as NPDES sampling/reporting for Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs), laboratory quality assurance reporting, and other reporting necessitated through state, federal, and internal Georgia Pacific standards * Oversee compliance with Georgia Pacific's Water Compliance Standard * Provide guidance/oversight to operation of the wastewater treatment facility and ensure compliance with the facility's NPDES permit * Utilize and support transformational programs to drive efficiency and accuracy improvements in regulatory compliance programs * Provide guidance to mill operations staff on wastewater treatment system set points, action triggers, KPI's and chemical feed optimization * Proactively interact with operations personnel in the Mill to assist in troubleshooting/Root Cause Analysis activities involving upset conditions that affect the wastewater system * Professionally represent facility at agency meetings and during agency inspections * Identify cost effective solutions to proactively address environmental issues, working closely with internal subject matter experts and legal representatives as needed * Participate in weekend duty, typically every 4 to 5 weeks Who You Are (Basic Qualifications) * Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Engineering, Pulp & Paper Technology or Physical Sciences (i.e.: Chemistry, Physics, Geology) * Must participate in weekend duty every 4 to 5 weeks What Will Put You Ahead * Experience working in pulp and paper or a similar process industry with wastewater treatment system operation experience * Knowledgeable in operation and management of Aerated Stabilization Basin (ASB) wastewater treatment systems * Experience in managing large Water Wastewater systems At Koch companies, we are entrepreneurs.
