GENERAL NATURE OF POSITION

As an engineer in aeroflightdynamics, this individual will have an integral role in the software development and research support activities in the areas of aircraft flight controls and human systems interface for the U.S. Army TDD Vehicle Management & Control Branch (VM&C) and the Human Systems Interface Branch (HSI) at Ames. The incumbent will also significantly contribute to the integrated flight control software suite (CIFER, CONDUIT, RIPTIDE, STITCH, and SWIFT) developed under VM&C.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to the overall development planning and direction of the evolving VM&C integrated flight control software suite to ensure that all the requirements are met.
  • Plan the development schedule and release of each component of the VM&C integrated flight control software suite.
  • Serve as Architect for CIFER and CONDUIT.
  • Collaborate with the software development team under the HSI Branch to support all research missions and goals.
  • Provide technical guidance to team members and lead teams to meet critical milestones and project deliverables.
  • Apply modern system and software engineering skills and technologies through all phases of development cycle to ensure software quality and robustness.


INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS

  1. Reports to the project director.
  2. Interacts with Foundation research staff and civil service staff on a daily basis.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications


  • M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent degree.
  • Minimum 10 years of hands-on Aerospace software application development experience, in the area of flight control design, optimization, simulation, and flight testing for rotorcraft, fixed-wing aircraft, and UAVs.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills as well as strong program management and software product development skills. In particular, demonstrate ability to develop and support highly sophisticated commercial-quality software tools for flight control design and optimization, flight dynamics modeling and simulation to ensure conformance to cost, schedule, and scope requirements.
  • Demonstrate strong expertise and proficiency with MATLAB and its product family (Simulink, Control Systems Toolbox, Parallel Computing Toolbox, etc.), C/C++, FORTRAN, Java, Python, Objective-C, Swift/SwiftUI, UNIX/Linux/macOS shell scripting and system programming, Windows system programming, client/server network programming.
  • Hands-on CIFER and CONDUIT programming experience.
  • Extensive experience with full software product development cycle, using agile and waterfall methodologies.
  • Extensive software configuration management experience, and extensive experience with using ClearCase, ClearQuest, Git, Mercurial as the CM tools.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in demanding, detailed, highly regulated research contexts.
  • Excellent written communication skills along with strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to conduct independent research and organize results for publication and presentation documented by publication record.


Additional Requirements

  • Located at the NASA Ames Research Center. Therefore, this employee must meet security qualifications for entrance to the Center.
  • Candidate will be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  • Must be onsite three days a week. Two of the three days must be Wednesday and Thursday; the third can be picked from Monday, Tuesday, or Friday.


Physical Demands

  • Must be willing to travel domestically and internationally.
