Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for performing a variety of patient care activities to assist providers and nursing personnel in a specialty clinic. Facilitates patient/physician/provider communication and coordination of care.

Job Functions


  1. Escorts patients to examination room and obtains vitals and documents in EMR
  2. Supports physician in documentation of patient's visit by entering physician's dictation in to the EMR system during the patients visit
  3. Administers prescribed medications/vaccine's and treatments in accordance with clinic policies and scope of certification/licensure
  4. Prepares equipment and assists providers during examination, testing and treatment of patients
  5. Performs room turn over in patient rooms between cases and at the end of day
  6. Performs specialty procedures/tests as directed by the Physician
  7. Helps maintain stocked supplies and sterilizes instruments/exam rooms
  8. Assists in arranging referrals/prior authorizations as necessary
  9. Provides patient education
  10. Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Education/Work Experience/License/Certifications
  • Graduation from Medical Assisting program or School of Practical Nursing
  • Current LPN Licensure or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (LPN's/ MA's will have 1 year to become licensed/certified in order to maintain employment)
  • Current CPR certification

Knowledge/Skills/ Abilities


  • Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to effectively handle high-stress fast paced environment
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to serve patients in a friendly and efficient manner
  • Knowledge of basic computer functions and Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations
  • Ability to work autonomously and as a team
  • Capable of making independent decisions with the use of good critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above

Preferred Qualification


  • EMR experience
  • 2+ years Urgent Care experience
