Assistant City Highway Repairer (Seasonal)
**This is a nine-month seasonal position starting in March and ending in December of each year. This position is subject to pre-employment medical , drug test, and subject to random drug testing.***
Selected candidate must be available to work in any borough, on any shift or any tour, (days/nights).

Under close supervision, Cleans, clears debris, and cuts grass from all assigned areas including Bridge pits, Bridge approaches, catch basins, sidewalks, roads, and tunnels. Assists in performance of general laboring work unrelated to paving operations. Assists in the installation and repair of guide rails and chain link fences properly utilizing all required equipment and tools, assists in preparation of defective areas for patching, utilizing picks and/or other equipment to break surfaces and assists in the replacement of the defective patches. Operates one or more types of motorized vehicles and assists in the use of various types of portable or towed power equipment and attachments as required in maintenance and operations. Assists in general maintenance of vehicles. Cleans interior and exterior of vehicles, changes wheels and tires and checks oil and fuel level lights, horns, and brakes. Performs general laboring work such as snow removal when weather conditions do not permit other operations. May assist in masonry work by the placing of forms during sidewalk and other concrete construction and repair work. May operate a motorized vehicle in maintenance operations and safely direct traffic around large construction projects. Performs incidental laboring tasks as directed by supervisor. May be required to work off hour and weekend shifts.
Preferred Skills Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form. Some of the physical activities and environmental conditions experienced are carrying materials and tools weighing up to 50 lbs. (e.g. rubber mats and fiberglass ladders,) climbing up and down stairs and ladders, and working at heights, in confined spaces, and in dusty areas.
Preference will be given to candidate who possess a CDL Class A or Class B driver's license valid in the state of New York. This license must be maintained throughout the duration of employment in DOT.

Minimum Qualifications Qualification Requirements 1. There are no formal education or experience requirements for this position. 2. There are certain medical and physical requirements. License Requirement A Driver License valid in the State of New York is required at the time of appointment. A Class B Commercial Driver License is required within ninety days of the date of appointment. There may be certain age requirements to obtain this license.

Residency Requirement
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
