Video Production Specialist

Johns Hopkins University KSAS Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) is seeking an experienced video professional for the role of Video Production Specialist (VPS). The VPS will be responsible for integrating video into the design and development of AAP, OSIP, and AAP Professional Microcredential courses. This position involves close collaboration with faculty and staff, managing all aspects of video production. The successful candidate should be proficient in operating camera equipment, lighting techniques, and sound setup, and must possess a solid technical understanding of production equipment. The VPS will contribute to project concepts and deliver a variety of high-quality video content, adapting to multiple recording environments, both studio and on-location, while maintaining high production value. In post-production, the specialist should have strong skills in handling large batches of video content, color correction, audio cleanup, and ensuring continuity of production value across all videos, while bringing their own artistic vision to the final products.

We are looking for a creative, dynamic thinker with strong writing and editing skills, who is a team player and has an aptitude for visual storytelling.

Candidates must be prepared to provide a portfolio of professional work as part of the interview process.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities


Video Production (90%)

  • Supports video production. by setting up cameras, microphones, and lights. Assist in the video studio (setup camera, screen capture, and monitor recordings).
  • Helps with studio equipment installation and maintenance.
  • Accurately edits audio and/or video from script, development of both text-based and animated content.
  • Ensures visual elements and quality standards are maintained across the entire video production process.
  • Retouching videos, including color correction, graphics/animations, and timing music/sound to copy.
  • Shoot video and record audio in-studio and in the field.
  • Input music, dialogues, graphics and effects.
  • Create rough and final cuts of video content.
  • Ensure logical sequencing and smooth running.
  • Consult and collaborate with stakeholders from production to post-production process.
  • Continuously discover and implement new editing technologies and industry's best practices to maximize efficiency.
  • Contribute to the Quality Assurance process by reviewing, testing, and providing feedback on multimedia team projects.
  • Support interactive media production for multiple courses in development, revamp, or revisioning.
  • Ensure all projects meet organizational standards for production value, brand, and archive organization.

Research (5%)

  • Keeps abreast of developments of related multimedia technologies.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • Four years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited college or university preferred. Concentrations in Multimedia, Video Production, related field, or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Four years' experience in video production work.
  • Experience and proficiency in all aspects of video production, such as leading shoots; audio recording, mixing and editing; familiarity with video compression best practices and media asset management.
  • Experience taking concepts/ideas and creating multimedia content.
  • Solid experience with digital technology and editing software packages (e.g. Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Audition, Media Encoder, Photoshop, etc.).
  • Experience with animation in either After Effects and or Cinema 4D.
  • Experience or interest in learning how to work with 360 camera footage.
  • Experience or interest in learning basic interactive video skills and software.
  • Portfolio of professional video work.

Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Creative and dynamic communication ability including writing and editing skills.
  • Experience and ability with visual storytelling.
  • Knowledge of lecture and screen capture tools such as Camtasia, Panopto, Kaltura etc.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to prepare written communication with an attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent customer service skills and friendly demeanor with faculty and stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to keep track of event calendars.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrable video editing ability with a strong portfolio.
  • Thorough knowledge of timing, motivation and continuity.
  • Familiarity with motion graphics elements.
  • Working knowledge of filming equipment (HD Camera, microphone, studio lighting, and teleprompter).
