Overview
The Rocket Mortgage Classic debuted in June of 2019 and is Detroit's annual PGA TOUR event. The tournament team is seeking to add smart and highly motivated aspiring sports management professionals as interns for the 2025 Rocket Mortgage Classic, held June 23 - June 29, 2025, at the Detroit Golf Club.
This is a paid internship, and candidates are eligible for overtime pay (time and a half) for any hours over 40 a week.
The Tournament Office is a fast-paced working environment. Tournament Interns must have the ability to work under pressure and handle many tasks at one time. Each day brings new challenges, and interns must have top-notch organizational and communication skills. On a daily basis, the intern will find themselves working in a typical office environment as well as significant work done in exterior environments. The ability to handle physical tasks such as lifting boxes and manual labor will be required at times. In the weeks leading up to the Tournament, the intern will work around (20) hours work weeks; however, as we grow closer to the Tournament, work weeks will lengthen to eighty-plus hours (80+) and will include early mornings, evenings, and several weekends.
The Operations intern assists the Tournament Team with the on-course operations of the 2025 Rocket Mortgage Classic, including advance preparations, Tournament week responsibilities, and post-event breakdown.
Responsibilities
General

Tournament Support
- Assist in a variety of matters for project management including:
- Internal meetings: planning sessions and brainstorms
- External meetings: with stakeholders, partners, and vendors
- Due diligence, desk research, and reporting
- Project management and cross-department coordination
Operations Support
- Assist Tournament staff with the preparation and set-up of on-site facilities (i.e., corporate hospitality, media center, vendor compounds, volunteer headquarters, office trailers, etc.)
- Work with the Tournament staff on the inventory and distribution of operational equipment (furniture, office equipment, coolers, signage, etc.)
- Take the lead as point person for specific vendors and oversee their progress during the build and tear-down processes
- Work with Tournament staff on installation and removal of signage and sponsor activations
- Assist vendors and Tournament staff with tear-down and clean-up procedures following the completion of the Tournament
- Responsible for capturing all structures, entrances and other operational areas of interest during Advance Week and leading into Tournament Week
- Provide Tournament staff with administrative office support
- Assist other departments with support, as necessary
Qualifications
- Able to work long and strenuous hours (40 - 100+ hour work weeks) including early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays
- Able to lift heavy items (furniture, coolers, boxes, product, etc.) (50+lbs)
- Ability to work with various tools and equipment (including but not limited to saws, drills, hammers, nails, screwdrivers, paint sprayers, box cutters, knives, motor vehicles/trucks/golf carts/forklifts, etc.)
- Must remain flexible with an ever-changing, fast-paced environment
- Able to think logically and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously
- Exceptional work ethic and organizational skills
- Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
- Detail and process orientated while demonstrating expansive thinking
- Flexibility to work both independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Golf knowledge or experience is preferred, but not required
- Part-time availability starting in March of 2025 (20-30 hours/week) and full availability (40+ hours/week) starting by May 26, 2025. This internship is a high intensity program and requires extensive time commitment. We highly encourage students to ask questions during the application and interview process about the commitment level
- Provide own food, housing and reliable transportation to Intersport Office and Detroit Golf Club in Detroit, Michigan for all scheduled in-person hours. Candidates must have a driver's license for this internship
- Priority will be given to applicants who can work in person for the entire internship, but we encourage all applicants to apply
