OVERVIEW: The Safety Manager is responsible for supporting the safety and health processes within the local organization. This individual will lead the safety and health efforts within the plant. The position of Safety Manager reports directly to the Senior Regional EHS Manager and has the responsibility of implementation and evaluation of critical safety processes, programs, and procedures to achieve goals, objectives, and continuous improvement related to compliance as well as injury reduction. DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor and maintain compliance with federal, state, and local workplace safety regulations
- Update procedures and policies for new regulations, guidelines, or corporate policies
- Provides management team with guidance on health and safety regulations in accordance with federal, state, and local guidelines and regulation
- Recommends ways to improve health and safety in the workplace
- Responds to on-site emergencies and incidents
- Monitors workplace daily to ensure all activity meets safety compliance
- Verify that all work is performed in accordance with approved manuals, internal policies and procedures, contract documents, and good engineering practices
- Document reports of incidents and record statistical information
- Work in a team environment where responsibilities for injury/illness prevention, compliance assurance, safety auditing, incident investigation, and employee training are incumbent on both the leadership team and the individual.
- Work with the management team and employees to instill a genuine culture of safety awareness and responsibility across the organization.
- Assist with employee engagement efforts including oversight of safety committees and the company's behavioral assessment process.
- Assist with workers compensation management and the return-to-work program.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- 3 to 5 years of occupational safety and health experience in manufacturing operations.
- Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety Management, Environmental Engineering, Safety, Risk Management or a related Technical Field
- Knowledgeable of federal, state (Louisiana) and local regulations as well as relevant consensus standards.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
- Knowledge of Behavioral Safety Auditing techniques.
- Incident Investigation and Root Cause Analysis education or experience.
- Ability to coach and train employees.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (to include but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Interpersonal skills with the ability to resolve conflict and reach agreement with others.
- Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and walk throughout the workday
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions, and make recommendations.
