Job Description

Danfoss Turbocor Compressors Inc, a leading-edge technology company in Tallahassee, Florida, is looking for a 2nd shift CNC Trainee The hours for this position are Monday - Thursday 3:30 pm - 2:00 am with Friday overtime being very likely and the occasional Saturday. THIS POSITION IS AN ENTRY-LEVEL, semi-skilled role that works under the direction of experienced co-workers to learn the trade of CNC machining. Upon completion of the training program, the candidate could be promoted into a CNC Machinist position. In this role, the CNC Trainee will produce machined parts by programming/editing, setting up, and operating computer numerical control (CNC) machines, while maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records, maintaining equipment and work area.

Our products are high speed, oil-free HVAC compressors using magnetic bearings, variable speed direct drive and digital control technologies. The ProductionTechnician will be responsible for mass-production of varying models of oil-free compressors by performing and participating in component parts preparation and line assembly operations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Follows written instructions in the form of Standard Operating Procedures. Also follows verbal instructions from experienced co-workers, team leaders, and supervisors
  • Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Plans stock inventory by checking stock to determine amount available; anticipating needed stock; placing and expediting orders for stock; verifying receipt of stock.
  • Programs/edits mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
  • Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads.
  • Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to international standards.
  • Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.

Education and/or Experience:



  • Minimum high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment such as, but not limited to, micrometers and calipers



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Certificate in technology-based or vocational programs of study; and 1-2 years of related technical experience
  • or; 3-5 years of equivalent experience in precision metalworking, machining, automotive, or other technical vocations.
