Organizational Unit Overview |
The position will be housed in the Department of Human Development and Family Science and with the Nancy W. Darden Child Development Center (
NDCDC). The Nancy W. Darden Child Development Center (
NDCDC) is the early childhood educational program operated by the department. It provides early education and care to preschool children ages 3 months through 5 years. Departmental undergraduate students' complete practicums and internships in the Nancy W. Darden Child Development Center (
NDCDC). The position will report to the Director of the Nancy W. Darden Child Development Center (
NDCDC) who reports to the Department Chair. |
Job Duties |
20%-Classroom
To provide for the care, safety, and wellbeing of all children in the group
To implement a model program that complies with all health and safety best practices for young children.
To assist in the evaluation of the program at the end of each semester and to make daily adjustments as needed.
To maintain a physical environment which meets the changing needs of young children.
To handle any special situations and emergencies that may arise.
Serves as a model teacher for students, volunteers, and practicing professionals who may visit the
NDCDC.
To participate in staff meetings, discussions and ongoing training regarding the program, children and parents.
Support faculty participation in and utilization of the classroom in regard to related courses
Coordinate the utilization of graduate teaching assistants, students, and volunteers in the classroom.
30%-Interactions
To work cooperatively with the staff in the provision on education and care to mixed-age groups of preschool children.
To give primary care to a group of preschool children
To handle any special situations and emergencies that may arise.
Instruct, supervise, and assist with evaluation of students assigned to the classroom for observation and practicum experiences.
Serves as a model teacher for students, volunteers, and practicing professionals who may visit the
NDCDC.
Support faculty participation in and utilization of the classroom in regard to related courses
Maintain effective interpersonal interactions with students, colleagues, and parents.
Instruct, supervise, and evaluate students assigned to the classroom for observation and practicum experiences.
The ability to communicate effectively with young children using approved interaction techniques.
Coordinate the utilization of graduate teaching assistants, students, and volunteers in the classroom.
25%-Curriculum
To demonstrate a sound knowledge of child growth and development and good teaching practices.
Serves as a model teacher for students, volunteers, and practicing professionals who may visit the
NDCDC.
Other duties as assigned.
The ability to apply knowledge of developmental levels to children's activities.
The ability to oversee both small and large groups of children at the same time
The ability to plan, prepare, and present nutritious snacks for young children.
A general knowledge of nutrition, health and first aid.
10%-Parents
To provide specific information to parents about their children
To share general information on child growth and development with parents, volunteers and others who participate in educational programs offered by the department
Maintain effective interpersonal interactions with students, colleagues, and parents
15%-Assessment
