Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Dental Assistant II for the Department of Orthodontics at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (
RSDM)
The Dental Assistant II supports the Department of Orthodontics by providing chairside assistance and all related duties for quality patient care.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Assists orthodontic faculty and students (postgraduate and predoctoral) as needed by seating patients, adjusting chairs, draping patients with protective covers and other related functions.
- Sets up and stocks units daily and as needed, throughout the day.
- Assists the department with the delivery of information to the patient, including but not limited to, patient treatment contracts.
- Provides instrumentation by preparing instruments for sterilization: deliver instruments to be sterilized, retrieve sterilized instruments, stock sterilized instruments, prepares instruments in treatment area and position instruments for provider's access (suctioning, passing instruments, etc.).
- Provides materials by selecting, mixing and placing materials on instruments as requested by providers.
- Exposes and develops radiographs. Prints/copies radiographs as requested by, faculty, students or management.
- Maintains dental supply inventory in the clinic area by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing requests by following departmental protocol.
- Participates with the conservation of dental resources, such as materials and supplies and report any out of the ordinary usage and/or requests.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Graduation from an accredited dental assisting program.
- Previous experience in a dental office.

Certifications/Licenses |
- Valid Radiological Technology License issued by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
CPR Certification.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Proficient in Four-Handed Dentistry.
- Knowledge of dental terminology.
- Attention to detail and communicates clearly.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize work/functions.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Bilingual (Spanish/Portuguese) preferred but not necessary.

Equipment Utilized |
- Dental Instruments, Xray machine, Lab equipment, Intra-Oral digital scanner and all other dental clinic related equipment.

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position requires the ability to lift 10 lbs., reach storage shelves and push soiled instrument cart. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Dental clinic setting
