PURPOSE AND ROLE:

The Project Engineering Lead is responsible for managing the refinery Project Engineering team. The Project Engineering Lead reports directly to the Technical Services Manager.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Enhance operations performance and project development with project engineering group.
    Ensure by leadership that all work is performed safely and in accordance with all Calumet procedures.
  • Provide direct supervision and leadership to engineering staff; including assignment and work schedule, monitoring performance, coaching and mentoring, and assuring the quality of work performed by engineering staff.
  • Ensure engineering department compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Provide engineering support of refinery safety and environmental performance.
  • Provide oversight of the Process Safety Management programs in the refinery.
  • Ensure adherence to all 14 PSM elements are adhered to in all work process.
  • Manage the overall department and Capex budgets.
  • Develop and prepare/submit "Authorization for Expenditures" (AFE's) for capital projects in the FEL Gated Process. Meets expectations on budgets and schedules.
  • Ensures project development from beginning to end to include project scope, goals, expectations and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with management and stakeholders.
  • Develop department and project procedures.
  • Executes the construction of projects within budget and tracks construction change orders for engineering approval.
  • Acts as a liaison between Operations and Project organizations for smooth and timely project execution.
  • Manage, direct, organize and control project/contractor activities.
  • Ensure the total quality management of the design, management and delivery of refinery projects.
  • Provide strategic and tactical engineering support for Calumet Corporate.
  • Participate in industry forums and committees in order to stay abreast of changes in engineering technology in the industry, and of mechanical failures and root causes in other refineries.


REQUIREMENTS:



  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Project Management skills and experience a plus.
  • Strong safety culture is a must in support of Calumets Vision, Mission, Values, and Cardinal Rules Strong leadership skills.
  • Lead by example in behaving in accordance with our Values.


EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:



  • 10+ years' experience in a refinery or petrochemical facility is desired.
  • A good working knowledge of Excel and Capital Budget Processes.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and projects with different priorities and be willing to work in plant environments.
  • Candidates must have demonstrated commitment to personnel and process safety, environmental protection, and community relations.
  • Detailed working with Process Safety Management (PSM) is highly desired.
  • Working knowledge of API & ASME codes a plus.
  • Knowledge of root cause analysis desired.
  • Excellent communication skills, including oral, written, and electronic.
  • Computer proficiency required.
