Job Summary

Supports the VP of Mobilization in the development of strategic mobilization programs on the national and regional level. Responsible for the successful execution of API's grasstops and grassroots program which includes supervision of the state mobilization managers in their assigned states. Responsible for implementing and coordinating federal and state advocacy initiatives, providing membership support services, engaging member companies on public policy issues, and other API projects as needed.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Leads industry-wide mobilization efforts, coordinates with existing member mobilization programs, and leads efforts for members without mobilization capabilities.
  • Leads state mobilization managers in support of API mobilization goals and provides managers with development and coaching opportunities to advance individual professional development.
  • Develops and implements state of the art tools and resources to increase grassroots and grasstops engagement.
  • Establishes and maintains a mobilization database that effectively supports program and organizational goals.
  • Develops and implements a tracking and metrics system for evaluating the grasstops program including specific asks and actions of grasstops and grassroots leaders.
  • Provides advocacy trainings and issues presentations for member companies, allied organizations, and other external audiences on the importance of industry mobilization.
  • Maintains effective relationships with existing members, partners, and consultants.
  • Manages and coaches API state team members on the cultivation of grassroots and grasstops leaders to further grow the network of support for API's member companies.
  • Collaborates with other API staff across the organization to ensure targeted and substantive delivery of membership services.

Key Relationships

  • Reports to the VP of Mobilization and assists with the conceptualization, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of natural gas and oil state and federal government relations and advocacy and legislative activities.
  • Contributes to the execution of the department's legislative agenda.
  • Supervises any State Mobilization Managers in their assigned states.

Qualifications

  • Requires 5-7 years of experience in a similar role and subject matter expertise.
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant area, or other related field equivalent work experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Communications, Public Policy, or experience in a related field.
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in politics, grassroots, advocacy, and mobilization preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of state and federal legislative process.
  • Proven ability to deliver results through leadership and collaboration with staff, members, state allies, and other internal and external business partners.
  • Experience in attracting top talent and empowering/motivating a high performing team to ensure cohesiveness around departmental goals and objectives.
  • Ability to manage and lead multiple projects from strategic planning through successful execution.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse business partners.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite products (Excel, Word, Outlook, Access) or similar type of products in a Windows environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to remain in a stationary position working on a computer.
  • Move about the office to access office machinery, meeting rooms, etc. on occasion.
  • Operate a computer and other office machinery such as printers and copy machines.
  • Transport items and equipment up to 10 lbs. on occasion.

Travel Requirements

  • Up to 25%
