This position gives you the opportunity to inspect signal, train control, and highway-rail grade crossing warning systems with an assigned territory to ensure compliance with both federal and state safety regulations among railroads, railroad employees, and contractors within the eastern region. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Signal and Train Control Railroad Safety Inspector, you will be responsible to plan and carry out an itinerary of field inspections and investigations. May participate in conferences at highway-rail grade crossings to determine if construction, relocation, or alterations are warranted. Our inspectors work independently and together with railroads, making your own monthly schedules for inspections in the assigned territory within the state. You will carry the same responsibilities and authority as a Federal Inspector. You will be required to attend FRA training classes which will require out-of-state travel. Additional responsibilities include:
- Review highway-rail crossing situation plans, signals, and circuit plans submitted by the carrier for approval by the commission.
- Performs final inspection on projects installed under the federal program in pursuance of federal highway administration guidelines and procedures.

- Full-time employment, 7.5 hours per day
- AWS (alternate work schedule) may be available upon successful completion of a 6-month probationary period.
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.

- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of railroad experience in track maintenance and safety inspections; or
- Four years of railroad experience in locomotive and rail car maintenance and safety inspections; or
- Four years of railroad experience in train movement, management, handling, and operating practices; or
- Four years of railroad experience in train movement, management, and handling of hazardous materials; or
- Four years of railroad experience in signal and train control maintenance and safety inspections.
Special Requirements:
- Possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license
Post Employment Requirement:
- Passage of the appropriate Federal Railroad Administration Qualification Examination within twelve months of the date of appointment.
Other Requirements:
- This specific position requires four years of railroad experience in Signal and Train Control maintenance and safety inspections.
- Candidate will conduct inspections within and must either live in or be willing to relocate to one of the following counties within 6 months of employment: Lancaster, Chester, Delaware Philadelphia, Montgomery, Bucks, Berks, Lebanon, Schuylkill, Lehigh, Northampton, Monroe, Carbon, Luzerne, Columbia, Sullivan, Wyoming, Lackawanna, Wayne, Pike, Susquehanna, Bradford, Franklin, Adams, York, Cumberland, Perry, Dauphin, Juniata, Mifflin, Snyder, Union, Northumberland, Montour, Lycoming, Tioga.
- Additional travel will be required in Potter, Clinton, Centre, Blair, Huntingdon, Bedford and Fulton counties.
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
