THE POSITION

Start your Career today as a Civil Engineer Trainee with the PA Department of Transportation - District 2 Engineering office located in Clearfield County Pennsylvania. You will rotate around the Design, Construction and Maintenance units to gain working knowledge of all phases of PennDOT operations.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
-
This position will prepare for a Civil Engineer position by completing a 12 month Civil Engineering training program. The work performed during this training period will develop practical proficiency in the use of engineering knowledge, skills and abilities in a bridge engineering, transportation engineering and or soils engineering environment. Will conduct preliminary engineering studies, analyzing field conditions, inspecting construction and maintenance projects, geo-technical reports, preparing or reviewing designs for highway or bridge projects, bridge safety inspections, analyzing traffic patterns and preparing recommendations to address traffic safety issues, and conducting the testing of materials, assists in other related duties as required for the training phase.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment.
- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Position will have vendor controlled hours during your phase in construction.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of civil engineering experience, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
- A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, or in a closely related field, which includes or was supplemented by major course work in civil engineering; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes possession of an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within nine months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Other Requirements:
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- Hiring preference for this vacancy may be given to candidates who live within Cameron, Centre, Clearfield, Clinton, Elk, Juniata, McKean, Mifflin or Potter counties. If no eligible candidates who live within these counties apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.
