We are currently seeking a Sr. Application Technologist to be responsible for facilitating the process in assessing the viability of the Animal Nutrition & Health spore-DFM products over time (shelf-life testing) to directly support product registrations globally and/or executing one-time counts validation (quality control). Specifically, we are looking for a candidate who serve as a Microbiologist on a Technical Services team responsible for evaluating the quality and stability of Direct Fed Microbials (DFM, Probiotic) blends added to animal feed. This candidate would be responsible for microbiological evaluations including enumeration and stability studies for regulatory dossiers, customer support, and/or technical services / business support. The successful candidate needs to be detail-oriented and can consistently follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and can make detailed observations, prepares data for analyses, maintains lab notebook, and drafts reports for internal use, customers, and /or regulatory dossiers.

Responsibilities:

  • Be the gatekeeper of initiating the spore-DFM stability process for requests coming from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Includes DFM-only and DFM + enzyme formulated products
  • Be an owner/accountable/responsible for the data being produced pertaining to DFM spore product, animal premix and animal feed studies.
  • Assist in formulating small-scale product material needed to execute stability challenging, working closely with Rochester DFM production, Manufacturing Technology, QA/QC, and the DFM Product manager.
  • Assist in formulating small-scale product material needed for animal trials or customer needs.
  • Ship material to third-party labs and internal labs for testing required for product registrations (requirements can change over time based on the registration).
  • Receive, challenge, and evaluate the product, animal premix and animal feed material, containing the DFM spores, to assess viability (one time or over time). Upload the data using the template files to the SharePoint Site to keep key stakeholders informed of progress on testing.
  • Execute blending of product into animal premixtures, aliquot and challenge the samples for premix studies. Assess the samples over time.
  • Work closely with pelleting facility to have product samples dosed into animal feed samples (mash and pellet) - have samples received by the lab to be challenged and evaluated over time.
  • Use Salesforce to manage one-time spore enumerations for customer requests globally. This includes keeping key stakeholders informed with issues pertaining to receiving the samples by US Customs, strictly adhering to the USDA permit requirements the spore laboratory operates under, testing the samples and uploading results to Salesforce in the form of a report.
  • Produce reports/Certificates of Analysis as needed in support of the regulatory team.
  • Manage the DFM spore laboratory and ensure proper safety precautions are being followed at all times.

Requirements:

  • B.S. degree in microbiology, molecular biology or equivalent with relevant lab experience.
  • Experience working in Regulatory -related sciences is a plus.
  • Experience with animal feed stability microbiology studies is a plus.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Experience with report writing and regulatory dossier preparations is a plus.
  • The successful candidate must work well within an international team maintaining a professional and productive relationship with supervisor and coworkers.
  • Methodical, systematic, and accurate approach, with attention to detail and able to achieve deadlines with complex or new issues.
  • Motivated to play a role in developing new products for more sustainable animal production.
  • Team-player in a multi-cultural environment and self-motivated.
