Introduction to the job

ASML US, LP brings together the most creative minds in science and technology to develop lithography machines that are key to producing faster, cheaper, more energy-efficient microchips. We design, develop, integrate, market and service these advanced machines, which enable our customers - the world's leading chipmakers - to reduce the size and increase the functionality of their microchips, which in turn leads to smaller, more powerful consumer electronics. Our headquarters are in Veldhoven, the Netherlands, and we have 18 office locations around the United States including main offices in Wilton, CT, Chandler, AZ, San Jose, CA and San Diego, CA.

This position is located on-site in San Diego, CA. It requires onsite presence to attend in-person work-related events, training, visits to EUV clean rooms and meetings, and to further ensure teamwork, collaboration, and innovation.

Role and responsibilities

The intern position reports to the Quality Continuous Improvement department in the San Diego Factory Operational Excellence team and is responsible for planning and executing parts and process quality initiatives related to EUV, including root cause analysis and Corrective/Preventive action coordination, monitoring quality metrics, and conducting internal quality assessments. Coordinates cross-functional projects such as the LEAN improvement initiative and facilitates FMEA brainstorming and ranking sessions. Creates quality reports to measure and monitor parts and process performance, including SPC metrics. Supports diagramming and evaluating existing processes and executes process improvement projects. Analyzes metrics for product and process measurement and identification of future improvement opportunities. Collects data to help identify the root cause of problems and plan solutions. Creates corrective action reports and presentations as requested.

  • Performs quality data analysis to identify systemic quality issues, propose solutions, and work towards solutions.
  • Enables and performs quality inspection of the laser system and modules.
  • Applies knowledge of industry inspection methods and standards with the ability to translate to product acceptability.
  • Performs quality audits of the manufacturing and quality process, evaluates process adherence identifies gaps, and communicates findings to team and management.
  • Aligns with teams on action plans to close gaps identified during manufacturing and quality processes audits and ensure closure.
  • Works closely with cross-functional teams to investigate issues reported by internal/external customers and develop, align, and implement resolution action plans.
  • Follows up on resolution action plans including implementation of containment actions and corrective actions.
  • Delivers results on time, including reporting to the team and management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Works on problems of limited scope. Follows established, standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained. Builds stable working relationships internally.

Education and experience
  • Requires a student in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's or higher degree in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Ability to search, listen, and recognize company and customers' needs, and translate them into project plans and requirements.

  • Demonstrated sustained drive for results
  • Possess knowledge and experience in capital equipment product development.
  • Possesses time management skills.

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. * 730, et seq.).
