Brown and Caldwell has an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Designer to join our growing team of talented electrical engineers and designers. This role will support multidisciplinary engineering and project management teams through the design and layout of projects for facilities primarily serving the water and wastewater industries.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience in electrical or I&C design using AutoCAD, Plant3D, Revit, and BIM, field services.

In this role, your responsibilities will include drafting and design support for the electrical and instrumentation and control disciplines from conceptual through detailed design development, equipment layout, Process and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs), One-Line Diagrams, development of contract drawings using 2D and 3D design approaches, BIM design, bid package preparation, field investigations, and support during construction. Project design work will include equipment upgrades for power distribution, lighting, process control instrumentation and control systems, industrial networks, and equipment details that include development and adherence to drafting and design standards imposed by our clients.

We are looking for candidates who have a passion for building things, meeting new people, mentoring staff, and collaborating with seasoned professionals who perform industrial and municipal electrical, and other water/wastewater work.

Primary responsibilities include:



  • Setup, develop and maintain AutoCAD, Revit and Bentley projects' electrical design documentation.
  • Prepare 3D electrical systems REVIT designs on projects for municipal or industrial clients.
  • Use Bentley or AutoCAD software tools to develop wiring diagrams, single lines, plan and section electrical drawings, facility power, lighting, control system, panel layouts, installation details, network diagrams, and other support drawings required for well documented electrical and control system designs.
  • Prepare 3D/BIM equipment and instruments layouts from conceptual information to final construction documents.
  • Coordinate design efforts with other designers and engineers.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines' models to develop plans and sections for design projects.
  • Coordinate design and model changes with other disciplines.
  • Field investigations, inspections, and field design support
  • Interpret and markup/update design plan drawings.
  • Supervise and mentor newer designer staff regarding the drawing layout process and its functionality.
  • Assist in development of standards and tutorials.
  • Collaborate with a national team of technical experts in the electrical and process automation group.


Required Qualifications:



  • Minimum of 7 years of experience working as an Electrical or I&C Designer.
  • Production experience in 3D/BIM design with experience in 3D modeling using REVIT.
  • Proficient in using AutoCAD or Bentley for creating design and construction drawings.
  • Demonstrated use or exposure to SQL database-oriented data management in production drawings.
  • Strong knowledge of drafting standards typically used by large municipal organizations.
  • Good understanding of the National Electric Code.
  • Good technical skills with the ability to articulate ideas and concepts both visually and verbally.
  • High level of communication and strong writing skills.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • 10+ years of experience working as an Electrical or I&C Designer.
  • Experience working in the municipal water/wastewater and/or industrial clients.
  • Understanding and experience with Process and Instrumentation Control Diagram (P&ID) development in AutoCAD Plant 3D or Bentley OpenPlant PID.
  • Understanding and experience with electrical safety, NFPA 70E.
  • Experience supervising and mentoring of newer design staff.


Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location A: $34.50 - $47.40/hr

Location B: $38.00 - $52.10/hr

Location C: $41.40 - $56.90/hr
