About the unit The Medical Surgical Unit at Pennock Hospital consists of 32 beds, 6 of which are ICU beds. The population of this unit can vary but some examples of patient types include total replacements, gynecology, general surgery, GI, bowl, and appendectomy. This unit is a great place to learn and grow your skills as a caregiver in a supportive and team centered setting. Scope of work Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider. Responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and acting as a safety attendant for patients. Ensures that required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner. Qualifications
